A little plot exposition about Madd. Its rumored by those who know him that he's gone native in the tropics and became a cannibal. Its certain that he is all about primitive weapons and the like.

I realised I couldn't remember Rourke's rank, so I guessed. If I'm wrong I'll go back and modify the post.

Well, 2nd lieutenant, but that's a minor point. He might get promoted again soon, or might not. Have to wait and see.

The Fyodor Apraksin is, I was thinking, one of teh last obstacles to be overcome. whether or not that is the case is up to Corsair, of course, but I just thought I'd offer one last battle...
Off to bed for now, see you all manana.

How thick is the fog at this point? I made a comment about it in an earlier post but it was never really confirmed by MWBailey or Corsair.

It's like saying when you try to extrapolate the end of the universe, you say, if the universe is indeed infinite, then how - what does that mean? How far is all the way, and then if it stops, what's stopping it, and what's behind what's stopping it? So, what's the end, you know, is my question to you."

Ah, lovely. Well Redburn feels confident flying through pea soup; we'll see how the Russians fare when they get to the mountains.

One relatively small issue: I just realized that, if the Marigold is heading South by Southwest, the mountain range she will be approaching and passing through would be the Caucasus, not the Urals -- and not the Finnish border (yes, there are mountains on the Finnish/Russian border).
This raises an issue. Where are we actually heading: west by Southwest (through the Caucasus) East by Southeast (through the Urals, In which case I can simply alter the heading post and my references to the Finnish border) Through the Mountains in the north of Finland (necessitating editing heading change but little else)
?

Caucasus. Who knows, it might make a convenient link through to a far east setting.

Looks like it's the Caucasus, then. In which case a turn to Greenland would not be impossible. Shall we go all Crazy Ivan and double back to Greenland, or perhaps continue southward -- or another direction?

Hmm. I'll amend Redburn's suggestion, under the assumption that we are currently heading west/southwest.

This Saturday and Sunday, I will be in Palestine, Texas for the annual Palestine Oldtime Music and Dulcimer Festival. Don't wait for me, go ahead and keep posting if you wish. I'll be back Sunday evening (I hope).

Anyone want to have a forced landing over Greenland and potentially find something?

If anyone has a problem with my post, let me know. And don't get me too involved... yet. I've got two assignments to hand in on Monday and Tuesday (each). I'm just staking my claim to staying in.

Marigold's spotters have spotted the 'shadow,' but no one is sure what it is yet. Bledsoe is contemplating casting off the cloud cover and making for the Upper Air (what we would call the 'jetstream' in RL).

I have given Starling my cooling skills. As long as it isn't much fancier than cook until no longer raw , season, eat she will get along fine.

Seeing as we're likely going to end part IV soon with a forced landing over Greenland we should perhaps start discussing Part V and what it is we'll discover on Greenland (also, whether it's a small delay or something that creates a chapter of the story)
Evelyn, do you have the far east plot idea fleshed out a bit?

Whoops, I totally forgot about the Far East story when I suggested Greenland. Perhaps after the forced landing a ship could be chartered for "parts-unknown-but-greatly-resembling-China"?

I was hoping for a coaling-up in Sweden, as it's most likely not an ally of Russia, and probably (?) a friend of Britain.
I can't say yea or nay on Part V being in Greenland, 'til I know what Stella wants to do about our London chapter. I was too bushed and snotty (literally; massive hayfever) last night to do more than what I did, and am just now looking at the RP this AM.
