Hmmm... Plans within plans, eh? Heh heh heh heh heh heeehhhh...

Huge relief on this end; In case anybody was wondering, the condition I was addressing is not cancerous (about which I was rather hugely concerned), but rather a result of old trauma (most likely). Have to go in and let them do some tests, yadda yadda yadda (no, it isn't a complication of diabetes, just a complication of being old, Wink so to speak).

I'm sorry to stick my neck in the middle of things again,

But...

Madd must have either hallucinated the whole seal affair, or harpooned the seal(s) by hand, because there is no harpoon gun mounted on the Marigold. There is a picture of the ship and a map as well, in the Artwork thread. The Marigold does not have a "main deck" other than the main corridor inside the envelope. The observatiion decks are just that; neither is a 'main deck.'

I'll take a look over at the artwork thread. I sorta used the words "Main deck" when referring to the Obs deck, and figured a war ship might have a grappling hook launcher to board other airships in combat.

Well, in fact it does, in a way; the rocket tubes are capable of firing rockets with grapnel warheads for mooring purposes in the field, and thus the ATLATL hand rocket launchers can fire said grapnel-warheaded rockets as well.

I was thinking of those for the harpoon launchers.

*Inter-Con, short for Inter-Continental Airfreight, a large (fictional) contract air-shipping company that is somewhat notorious for underhanded business tactics. (and could conceivably just be spreading the Greenland rumors in order to drive up prices...)

*Clockwork Chime drones: small, flying devices with a bell-steel outer shell designed to ring like a loud bell when the drones are hit by practice projectiles. Originally intended merely for pistol, rifle, light gatlings and non-explosive ATLATL exercises, they have long since proven their resiliency , and are currently used for practice with everything up to approximately ten-pound size. They also were once used to send secure (non-morse/non-semaphore) intership messages via launch along line-of-sight vectors before the advent of aetheradio.

The practice is for the Hotchkiss guns mounted on popup gimbal mounts below all portholes and next to any doors or hatches that open to the outside of the ship. Some are mounted inside of crew and passenger cabins, some at portholes in corridors, some in the 'communal' rooms, and even three in the Control Car. Basically, they are four-barrel gatling-like affairs that can be either wound up via their integral crank, or simply fired by rotation of said crank. They unfold and swing up from their 'shipped' positions beneath or beside portholes and hatches/doors. Some, as in the case of those on the flying deck, are mounted on hinged booms for versatility of use around large openings, and tidiness in folding them away (hoping there'll be an attack by heavier-than-air craft, maybe even a 'dogfight' with an enemy frigate later on in the storyline).

Madd is opting out of the Hotchkiss guns, as much as he loves big guns. He feels a little on thin ice after wrecking the maxim.

Hmmm... I can't wait to see what he comes up with.

Rourke's comments as always are in character.

He's not likely to let Mordaunt simply go all flowers-and-treacle with him. He has no way to be absolutely sure, of course, but it's obvious to Rourke that something is a least slightly off about (what he does not actually know is) the Baron's facade.

Basically, Rourke's a thug, a former sergeant with a commission, and (if the baron were an opponent) he might just cut off a person's opposable thumbs to prove that they were actually a pretty essential thing to have in order to be able to manipulate things like a human would -- and protestations that that is not all there is to humanity would be mostly lost on him, bare-bones pragmatist that he tends to be.  But he still has at least pretensions to gentlemanly behavior, and that veneer stops him from turning into Richard Sharpe and slapping people around.

I'm thinking he actually has known one of the crew members in the past, but due to his eccentric absent-mindedness he has forgotten who the guy was.

One way to figure out what to post and how, is to imagine one's posts as passages from a novel. In that context , all of  us (the players in the RP) combine our talents as a sort of 'collective author,' or a group of authors collaborating in the creative process of writing a novel, or short story, or novella (whichever fits). Each person writes within the parameters of his character(s) in the storyline and within the parameters of the RP as a whole. Questions and/or new story/plot ideas are hopefully aired in the OOC thread before one writes it into the storyline; the GM (Gama Master/Game Manager, terms vary) generally directs what is and is not acceptible, plausible, and allowable.

So, everyone's posts are passages in this great big collaborative novel; just like certain passages in a regular novel pertain mainly to the actions, reactions, thoughts and feelings of a certain character (just one in this hypothetical scenario, for the purpose of brevity and clarity), in the RP your passages concern your character's actions, reactions, thoughts and feelings.

So, now, the Intro. Think of the introduction of a character in a novel, or other works. how is he presented? Does he simply walk or ride on like a character from a Louis Lamour Western pulp novel? is it like the screenplay character intros from LOEG? What's his reason for being there? How does he feel about it? What does he hope to gain (could be as simple as shelter from a storm, a berth on the closest ship heading away from 'here' (wherever 'here' may be) or as complex as 'a better life' (or more so). That's what the process is like, except that you write in the details, and all the relative bits for that character.

Some people prefer to have their character make a dramatic entrance, like Alexis' character Will, barely surviving the crash of an airship and being rescued by the Captain of the Marigold. (that's where the collaborative aspect comes in, where others write their passages to interact with your own). Others prefer to simply write about the character's progress to teh meeting site. Maybe he walks through an open-air market to get to the aerodrome, and you describe the market and his interactions with its denizens. Or, perhaps, he gets discharged from his unit for some infraction or other, and they advise him to find the first ship out of the city, and you describe that journey to the meeting site. Or anything (plausible) that you might happen to think of on your own.

This is getting long, so I'll shut up now. Wink

Happy RPing!

With us coming up to Canada, Madd is very close to the North. He's wanted by the US authorities for his actions during the civil war.
