Madd apparently gave Mina the coffee bean in the shop and then returned to the ship to rifle the Library. Currently it's just Rourke, Mina (bat) Redburn, Will, Thomas (cat, in bag with bat), and Dr. Starling Scott holding the bag and buying medical supplies with an herbal bent (willow bark, honey, etc.) Rourke may be hightailing it back to the ship on the Bosun's steam bike in a few.

Not to put too fine of a point on it, but Rourke's eyes were not bloodshot; they were exhibiting the common vampiric trait of glowing irises, which in the case of Rourke, his sire and her former Master, are blood-red (and not from blood). Rourke is not actually a vampire yet, but his condition is progressing, and he is starting to exhibit some of the traits.

I suppose it's not necessary to go tearing along at a  blistering pace, but I'm starting to wonder if we're bogging down.

Phone posting; sorry for any typos.

I apologise for the misunderstanding over the eyes; read the post as Marcus mispronouncing blood-red irises" as 'bloodshot"  Kiss

As for moving on Im just waiting for an opportunity for Marcus to go "You want to pay with money? I have a better idea..."

I believe you are in Greenland now, is there any chance you could head over to Quebec on the way to the Orient and pick up Pierre (does anyone remember my character)?

I am thinking perhaps someone in whatever remote outpost he is situated in sent out a distress call via some kind of improvised aether radio, because they are starving to death and the much needed resupply airship has still not arrived. Although Pierre doesn't know it yet, this is because a greenie outbreak has occured in whatever city the resupply airship is coming from.

We're actually still in Kalmar, Sweden, about to depart for Nuuk, Greenland. Whether we go on to the Orient is in doubt, sort of; Alexis has offered a possible scenario. Nothing is set in stone yet in that regard; In any case, we could probably (?) make a hop to Quebec no matter where else we end up heading off to.

I've been finding it consistently difficult to get on the forum over the weekend for some reason. I'm back at work though and I'll be posting today.

I just gave a possible explanation for why the ship may head to Quebec. If there's a bigger/better plan I can easily take it out as needed.

If we do go this way then I'll make sure the affairs are *incredibly* brief, rather than drag us further and further away from the central plot.

Marcus just mentioned that he some affairs to set in order in Quebec. From there we can either run with the previously mentioned idea or have your character actually be Marcus's business. Perhaps the best way would be to combine the two; Marcus has become aware that the supply base has been taken out of action and your characters base left to starve through his contacts and thus directs/manipulates the team to go there where you can be rescued (as such) and join the crew.

The above is OK by me, as long as we stop off in Nuuk first. Also, I'm not sure where Corsair's Game will end, so I can't really make promises as to where we go until he signs off on it; Greenland was to be our last stop in that episode, I believe.

Now, about Rourke's little toothy threat: his bio has always included the bit about growing up hard and tough on teh streets of Eastcheap. There's also the bit about his joing the Airship Corps. in ordee rto escape a trumped-up murder charge. There wodl have been a magistrate and an "invitation" involved. HE woudl have heard of teh underworld deal gone wrong, if only by rumour.

My only thought is that if Kapitan Fritz wants to roleplay and the only way to introduce his character into the game is for us to head to Quebec then it seems a little unfortunate that he'll have to sit back and wait while we take part in a (possibly lengthy) adventure in Greenland... and I'm not entirely sure it would make logical strength to stop off in Nuuk, head to Quebec and then head back again. Of course, it's not my call.

Edit: It's also worth noting that the collection of store's Marcus runs are actually legitimate businesses (if forced to keep their prices down) as well as fronts for when Marcus wishes to travel and bring in/sell certain objects; it is only when Marcus is there in person that information trading becomes their primary business.

Now that you mention it, it does seem unfair to make him wait that long. I guess as long as the "business" in Quebec doesn't take more than a couple or four days realtime, it won't make too much difference. I wonder if the Marigold might receive a serendipitous communique' to visit Quebec for some reason... perhaps to pick up a report from a researcher on Greenmouth Catatonia who found a new strain in a fishing village in Greenland...?

Also, it's probably incredibly obvious already, but just in case, I'd like to remind anyone who has doubts on the matter that Rourke's manner, words, and actions are in character only.

At least as I see it (and of course dependant on the posting speed of others) it could be an incredibly brief trip; we fly near Quebec, pick up distress signal, we fly to distress signal, we find the new character, we pick him up, we move on. Marcus does something or some such which constitutes "settling his affairs" and we head back towards Greenland; standard character interaction/introductions/building can be done either on the way to Nuuk or once we get there.

And what do you mean it's all in character only. Now I've lost my sense of righteous indignation!  Tongue

Madd's much the same except being from the South and living in the Amazon Jungle. These two should either get on famously or fight like cats and dogs.

Sorry, still on phone.  I thought Madd had returned to the airship while Mina (et al) were in the shop(pe) with Marcus?

I was under that impression as well, but in fact he did write that Madd stopped off for horsefeed. Should I adjust Rourke's return to the airship?...

Also, Dr., it appears from your wording that you or Madd are convinced that the Mina of the airship crew is a humanoid character. Not that it's really that big of a deal (beyond a coherent storyline), but she is in fact a vampire bat.

Also, for future reference, Mina can only be conversed with by
1. a psionic link (pretty much a closed circuit "vampire channel"; not sure if it would work for Thomas or not), or
2. 'Beast Speak' (term and quotes mine), such as the one introduced by Alexis' character, Will. Madd being so intimately associated with what I tend to call "fell beasts" (pardon the Tolkienism), that should not be a problem.
3. By speaking to her in English (or, possibly Romanian); she does understand human speech, being basically a cell of a larger 'familiar entity' form of Wilhelmina Harker, but she cannot speak it. yet... interpreting her replies involves mentally translating her Beast-Speak answer. That also would probably not be a problem for Madd.

Maybe I should appear at the end since you seem to heading to Greenland in haste

Sounds OK to me. just don't kill Will (Kill Bill? -- sorry, the doctor changed my meds again... Wink)

Vampire bats are from South America, so he would be familiar with their behavior- After all, he's a rogue layman Zoologist.

Mina's origin is as a familiar of a vampire. The behavior might be similar in many respects, but she also exhibits human characteristics, being the familiar of a humanoid entity. Also, I see no reason why in the game's universe there could not be a European population of vampire bats, especially since bats in general occur almost everywhere, and especially the massive amount of RL lore.

If there were Vampire bats in Europe, they would almost certainly be of supernatural origin.
