Persons intending to travel by open carriage should select a seat with their backs to the engine, by which means they will avoid the ashes emitted therefrom, that in travelling generally, but particularly through the tunnels, prove a great annoyance; the carriage farthest from the engine will in consequence be found the most desirable.

I have the day off, and have had the house to myself for the last few hours. Enjoying a documentary on the Funk Brothers and a lovely mint julep.

"Well, I don't really think that the end can be assessed as of itself as being the end because what does the end feel like? It's like saying when you try to extrapolate the end of the universe, you say, if the universe is indeed infinite, then how - what does that mean? How far is all the way, and then if it stops, what's stopping it, and what's behind what's stopping it? So, what's the end, you know, is my question to you."

Might get to spend a couple of days on holiday with my boyfriend, for the first time in over a year and a half =]
He sort of half mentioned how it would be nice to go to London for the day to visit museums, then go stay in Brighton overnight to see an old friend, but that that would obviously be too expensive. I checked online and found train tickets plus B&B for less than 50 quid each =]

Havn't been able to post this for a few days due to a horrific raging fever buuuut:
Took a stroll into town to take a look around the Vatican Museum. Every time I've been past the place before the queue has been stupendous, but thanks to the snow there was no queue at all!
The place was almost completely empty! Loads of time and space to sit down and appreciate the many prices of art without the slightest press or jostle. I even had the little room with the van gough in to myself for 20 odd mins of close study and contemplation!
The busiest place was the Sistine Chapel, but even there seats could be found to try and take in the amazing art.
After that, well. It's Carnival season, so parties, costumes and drinks galore.
Then flu.

Just imagining that meal, and the fact that one day soon I'll be capable of cooking similar makes me happy too. Well, really I just need to practice frying fish, and cooking hush-puppies.

I don't claim to be an expert, but it isn't that hard to do. Honestly the recipe for hushpuppies was a bit involved because we had to fake self-rising flour and do some actual prep, but the batter for the fish is really simple and frying it all isn't too hard. Its not all that healthy but it sure it tasty!

I used to be the bbq guy, I was taught so that my folks didn't have to do it. Then they bought a Webber and I was no longer permitted to bbq. I do love cooking, and it's only a matter of getting to that experiment. My lady seems to enjoy the cooking. This last semester I was not in school and spent most of the time being a homemaker, it was wonderful. Now her and I jokingly debate about who gets to be the stay at home when we do have children.

Ah bbq. I admit to being something of a barbecue snob, but I love both barbecuing and grilling. I've found that the internet is your friend when you're cooking, and as long as you have a decent idea of what you're doing its pretty hard to mess up most things.

Well for the bbq, my next move is to talk with a friend in town who's been raised by it. He's built his own, as well as his own smoker. I am looking to learn from him on that matter. And I certainly know the wonders that the internets provide. Also some great cookbooks that I have found here in Texas. The Pioneer Woman's Cookbook, the Cowboy Cookbook also.

After she stopped crying, I put her down, she walked two paces and started to cry again. As I approached to confor her again, she turns around and says:"your it, hihihi!" Isn't that a wonderfull funny and above all girly thing to do?

Personally I've always found them a bit tough and chewy... lol In great news for me a new doublet and another new kilt now grace my wardrobe. That's kilt number ..., ohhhhh something. I have almost the full outfit finished now, I've been working on it since my first Asylum and I think, at last, I'm happy with it, for now. So just one more outfit to finish this year I think, possibly two. By George, I do believe I'm ahead of schedule!

Yesterday I finally got around to putting my money where my mouth is and joining the Victorian Society, only about 18 months after I first started talking about it in the heady days of starting my masters degree. Better late than never, I guess. That just leaves.... the Georgian Group, the National Trust and English Heritage to sign myself up to

Personally I've always found them a bit tough and chewy... You're not cooking them right then. I've found that slow cooking them with a nice vinegar marinade is an effective way to tenderize them.
