Decided to walk the long way home from my boyfriends.
They have turned the churchyard into a 'village square' and laid almost all the stones flat- even in the middle of the pathways! This has caused terrible damage to some inscriptions and decoration especially those which had lead lettering (feet, pushchairs and skateboards have pulled many of the letters off) so I'll be playing join the dots to work out the inscriptions. I'm going to spend this afternoon producing a record sheet for each monument- and give a copy to the church warden- i hope he/she will thank me when the inscriptions are unreadable in a few months/years. It makes me mad that our heritage and our dead can be disrespected in this way but I'm glad I can do something however small to ensure these people are remembered.

Reading this very nearly physically hurt. But then, I live somewhere where you're lucky to get any history past two hundred years...

Luckily (I guess) it's a fairly new church, i.e. its Victorian. I've been going through the photos I took, the oldest headstone so far is 1884, which makes me worry that they simply threw away the badly damaged ones... The church opened in 1860 so there's a couple of decades missing. Hopefully though I've just not deciphered the dates on the oldest ones yet.

What almost physically hurt me is seeing how little care they took- some memorials have concrete on the upper surface, one has some of the pieces arranged upside down! All of the ones laid flat in the 'flower beds' have been placed far too low and so the bark topping is covering much of them- I'll have to go back and clean these very carefully.

Flightless Phoenix, if there was one group of people who didn't think you were nuts for caring about old graves and history, I dare say it would probably be steampunks. You are among like-minded friends here. Grin

Seconded.

THIS made me happy today.

Received a phone call & a perfumed letter from the girl I love today. Feels like that almost balances out all the bad from this week.

"Well, I don't really think that the end can be assessed as of itself as being the end because what does the end feel like? It's like saying when you try to extrapolate the end of the universe, you say, if the universe is indeed infinite, then how - what does that mean? How far is all the way, and then if it stops, what's stopping it, and what's behind what's stopping it? So, what's the end, you know, is my question to you."

Well now I'm certainly heading over to the Gah! thread after failing at robbing a pub and then being laughed at for it.  Hurmph!

(ha ha ha, that was great!)

A good friend of mine is giving me a hand on the job search.  Chances are I will not be able to talk much on here about what I'd be doing if she found anything for me.  (politics)   Grin

Will be on a business trip to South Korea (again) next week. During the last trips I managed to see a bit of Seoul and learn about the people. As a voluntary fireman I was always interested in seeing firemen from other countries.

Just received an email:

A korean colleague organised a visit to the local fire-brigade for me. Will go there on Monday afternoon.

Well, I got a good laugh from this because the first time I read it, I missed the word "on the" and had a "Wait, What?" moment. Sometimes I wonder if my brain is firing on all cylinders....

Meeting my friends for a sunny afternoon end-of-the-week lunch at the Cowdog truck.  It's the little things.

It's also finding out that there are all you can eat Seafood and Gumbo and zydeco music at the Granada Hotel in town tomorrow!

I was at the TMTWNBBFN gig tonight. In the front row. Got to meet Lady Ava and her LYM who are both lovely people!
And danced my feet off, my throat is hoarse... it was BRILLIANT!!!  Grin

I am aware that I made you guys jealous... and I'm not really going to apologize!  Wink
But if you have the slightest chance to ever see The Men live: don't miss it!!! They are awesome! Their CD's are brilliant but it's the live performance that really blows you away! (Even after sleeping one night, I'm still pretty hyper, can you tell? *g*)

I'm told TMTWNBBFN will be hopping over the pond some time later this year...

After ten years I once again laid eyes upon sixty or so issues of a magazine I avidly collected (then got tired of and had put up in the loft).  Now I have them back, where do I put them?
