Happy Birthday!

I'm now the proud owner of a boxset of Sherlock Holmes DVDs.  Every single episode of the 1980s/1990s incarnation with Jeremy Brett in the title role.

Replaced 3 (out of 14) buttons in my overcoat with brass counterparts. They look rather decent Smiley
I don't claim it's rocket science, however, I've never sewn a single button in my life before - hence my happiness Wink

Good and bad today, mostly good.

My laptop is fixable. All I need is a replacement motherboard. I've emailed Asus about it, so hopefully I get some good news there. The bad news- Ebay's got nothing, which honestly surprised the hell out of me. I did find found a couple of Hong Kong electronics sites selling "genuine" boards (which I'm about 90% certain are bootlegs) though.

In the meantime I picked up a Toshiba Satellite C655C for cheap. It'll be okay for web browsing or watching videos until I finally get the Beast back up and running.

I am happy today becasue:

I just got back from Dublin, where I visited Trinity College, Glasnevin cemetery and Glendalough.

I just got back from Dublin, so I get a break from my Mum; 2 weeks is a bit much!

It looks like I might finally gte to do my reseaqrch at Highgate and soon!

My advisor finally emailed me. He even said faintly helpful things, after a year of him pretending I don't exist this is most good.

It is my friend's birthday so i am going out tonight; just what I need after a week of going to bed at 10pm and being tutted at for having a second vodka and coke.

I applied for a job doing what I do now (which I love) as a full employee but for about twice the money I get currently as self-employed, not really expecting to get a look in. And got an interview, next thursday. Eeek!

Congrats Mr. Basspine!!

this could have been a gahhh, but -

My truck's front axle exploded - and the shop that installed it stepped up and replaced it for free ... in three hours!

The weather is improving and the wildflowers are starting to come in - most epic!

Worked at the pet store today, and had a lot of laughs with one of my....nonhuman co-workers....Buddy was our greeter today.  Him and I had a few conversations, finally I said, "Buddy, I'm taking a picture of you, pose for me"....this is what I got.    He would greet customers with a "Hello" and then when they left he'd say "Good Bye."  Chico and I broke up a fight between Roscoe and Echo....yeah....I think I spend too much of my time with Parrots, but it is so much fun.   Grin

Finally getting some more work done on my internship report. What also made me happy was when I was doing entrance controls at the personnel entrance earlier, there was this German child who kept asking me all these questions about what I was doing, and I managed to have something resembling a conversation with her in German (my German isn`t exactly fluent, far from it, even after having grown up right next to the border, but since I need it on a near daily basis I decided I need to practise it again). I let her scan some of the passes as well, which seemed to make her happy, which in turn made me happy.

Seems we all have work related happiness atm! Yay! I've got to go to a meeting in London next Saturday and that's also the day a dear friend is celebrating her birthday so I get to party with her. Woohoo! I've not seen her for almost 2 years so this couldn't be more perfect.

(yesterday) I rode 56km off-road on my mountain bike at an event called Devon Dirt. It was muddy and rainy and epic. The thing that made me particularly happy was seeing my first swallows of the summer as they flew over the reservoir at Trenchard. That means (regardless of the weather on this St George's Day) that summer is coming!

I found four small very odd brass lamps at Goodwill today..three are rocking horses the fourth is a pineapple. I'm going to create fused glass lampshades to go on top of these. Also, I have had my first experience with sculpey clay, I'm making Minecraft animals for Ferris's ninth birthday this weekend, they are turning out well so far..

I finally beat my mate (hereafter know as M______ R____) at Munchkin. Oh yeah. That's for playing the "Hat of Magnificence"* card and thwarting me last time, Mr R.

*a guest card from the Foglio studio. Oh, the irony!

Yeah, I'm sad enough to post things like that in forums. Hell, I'm going to be crowing on FB for the rest of the week

In other news, we had a pleasant evening at my place, and the Mutton & red wine casserole (courtesy of the local farmer's market) went down well.

Got a job interview to work at a bicycle parts warehouse.  If I get the job I'll be making closer to my old wages and combined with my other two jobs, I'll be working over full time.  Best part is that it is within walking distance of my house.

I'm so happy today I can barely contain myself.  The last few weeks have been great in spite of minor irritations.

I spent Saturday at Scarborough Renaissance Festival in Waxahachie which was a blast as usual, but the real treat came Sunday...

I went to visit my friend at the halfway house for the last time before she gets out.  The week before our visit was amazing and I could tell something had changed between us, but at that point she was still intending to give her ex a second chance...  Sunday she greets me with "I've got some great news...  You're going to love this."  and then she led me outside to the visiting area.  She proceeded to tell me that she had told her ex that she is done with him for good.  He's out of her life permanently.  She said after our last visit that she never really loved him, at least not the way she loves me.  She's still scared of screwing my life up so she's decided not to come stay with me for now. Instead, she's going to stay with the father of her first child and try to be a mother for a while, but he has no interest in rebuilding their relationship so he has no problem with her building our relationship.  And she has made it clear to me that she does intend on continuing to build our relationship.

All in all, I think it's an almost perfect solution.  We can continue building from where we're at, she can spend time with her son, and it gives me a chance to get some pieces of my life rearranged in preparation for a potential future.

So yeah, I'm incredibly happy.

That is fantastic news!  (It gives some hope to the others of us who still get stuck in the doldrums of unrequited love...)
