The misses and I got to see Buddy Valastros baking with the boss tour last night. I was actually called up on stage where I learned how to make a chocolate rose that I got to present to my lovely wife.

Went to Michael's crafts this morning to buy Sculpey. They were out of a couple of the colors I was looking for, so I went to the other side of the shopping center to see what JoAnn's had. Not only did they have the colors I wanted, they were on sale for half off, and the regular price was cheaper than Michael's anyway.
So I ended up with twice as much Sculpey as I went out for. I'm sure I'll find a use for it.

Things that make me happy today, I'm 90% done with my copper corset project, the Internet came back on today after being out all yesterday, and my tomato plants actually produced tomatoes this year..

Speaking of gardening!
My significant other decided he wanted to try his hand at gardening, this year. I honestly wasn't expecting much, considering he tends to leave projects half-finished, and our dead strawberry plant wasn't instilling much confidence in his gardening abilities.
But he dug up a small part of the backyard, planted cucumbers and lettuce, and I asked him to throw some cantaloupes in there, too. I was very surprised when it actually started yielding lettuce leaves (his first harvest was a full-sized salad), and some weeks after that, we were able to pick about five or six cucumbers--there's more out there ripening up, still.
But today--! I found our first cantaloupe! I'm very happy because those are the ones I was personally rooting for. In our inexperience, we planted everything too close together, so our cucumber vines are all intertwined with our cantaloupe vines, so it's been a little difficult to distinguish what is growing where. When the weather clears up, I'd like to go back out and see if any of those oddly round cucumbers might actually be cantaloupes in disguise.

I picked the last of my raspberries today. Shame that the snails had walked over most of them - but I am sure that the gloop they leave behind will wash off. Well I hope that it does.

Got a free oscilloscope from a mate (he found a couple being chucked out at his work), it's nothing special but it's better than my old 1960's one (this one works properly for starters). It's a 20MHz analogue CRT scope from about 1986. It took a LOT of cleaning and a number of repairs to get it functioning, but I have just completed running a few basic tests, and everythin checks out as I expected. Took me about 8 hours to get it all sorted. The calibration is loooooong since out of spec, but that is not an issue for my purposes. I'll tweak it if needed. That saved me about £100 on flebay for a similar spec 'scope. Very happy! SS

Oooh, I have only seen the first season, but wish to continue on to get to season 4....
Preemptive happy: Going to visit the place of my artistic and spiritual birth tomorrow (Carlisle, Pennsylvania as strange as that sounds) and then off to visit my Grandmother. Very much looking forward to both.

"Well, I don't really think that the end can be assessed as of itself as being the end because what does the end feel like? It's like saying when you try to extrapolate the end of the universe, you say, if the universe is indeed infinite, then how - what does that mean? How far is all the way, and then if it stops, what's stopping it, and what's behind what's stopping it? So, what's the end, you know, is my question to you."

Aside from making hilarious social commentary, yesterday I found a local mentor for my horological experiment. He's been in the business for forty or so years and seems like a nice guy-suffers a bit from that "mechanical watchmaking won't make you any money" philosophy, but old men are supposed to be grumpy and closed minded, that's what they do.

So even though its new, it definitely pays tribute to the past.
