We've made it official! There will be the first ever PA Steampunk convention in Gettysburg!!!

The Convention ((still yet unnamed)) will be March 29 - 31, 2013 (Easter Weekend)at the Gettysburg Wyndham Hotel. We would have approximately 5500 sq. feet that can be used for vendor space and almost 5000 sq feet of performance space in the ballroom. There is also an 1100 seat ampitheater for a film festival as well!

Currently we are looking at room rates of  $99 a night at the Wyndham and proabably a bit less, ($89 a night) at the Courtyard next door. This may be slightly cheaper, we're still working with the hotels.

This will not be a convention like any other! We're replacing the weekend of endless panels with tours, historic outings, and shopping expeditions! Naturally we'll still have workshops and panels, but there will be lots more available as well! Within the next couple months we'll be opening up for independent film submissions for our festival and competition! There will be a fully stocked vendor room with all the latest and greatest designers and creators to offer up their wares!

GET EXCITED PEOPLE!!! Because if this con goes well, 2014 will be Pittsbugh!! The heart of the Industrial Revolution and the birthplace of American Victoriana!

And the hearts of the meanest were humbled and began to believe it was true

And the Gods of the Copybook Headings limped up to explain it once more."~Kipling; 1919

Only about 1/2 or so from me at the MD-PA border, sounds like a good plan. markf (my wife and I take our dogs out for an ice cream at Kilwin's in Gettysburg every month or two, so clearly they're not too spoiled).

Wouldn't be too far a drive from me. Add the old-fashioned ambiance and historical significance of the town and it seems like a great idea. Please keep us posted if things move forward with this proposal. Smiley

ETA: Also, you should look into the dates for the International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival, which also takes place in Gettysburg. Might be fun to schedule a steampunk con in conjunction with such an event, given the importance of those two British gents to Victorian culture.

Not too much info yet as we're still in the planning stages.... Smiley I will post info as it gets nailed down. My main goal is just to see if we have an interested following to make it worth the effort. Smiley

I'm only about 3 hours or so from Gettysburg (from the Scranton-ish area) and I would certainly be interested!

Wow, sounds great!  I'll be back in Texas by then (hopefully within the next month actually) but I would certainly be interested in travelling back out this way to attend.

Congrats on the retirement, Markf. Cheesy Hopefully you'll be able to celebrate with us!

We're really excited about this and scrambling to gather the best and brightest for a really amazing show! Some prospective guests will be "The Clockwork Dolls", "Hellblinki", "Eli August", "This way to the Egress" and "Emperor Norton's Stationary Marching Band." ((No confirmations yet, but there will be announcements as we nail each band's foot to the floor.))

Any further information about this new convention? It sounds rather exciting. I've even been working on a new costume to debut at the event! Smiley

Okay, so here's the Status. We had a gentleman interested in sponsoring the Convention. Unfortunately he pulled out, deciding instead he would rather through his own convention in Baltimore. Sad I can't fault him, but it left us High and dry and 2 months behind schedule because we had been talking to him and not seeking sponsors.

SO The goal right now is raising money, Anyone know any companies that would be willing to sponsor something like this?

I'm sorry to hear that a backer withdrew his support. I hope that someone can step in. I've been inviting friends in the area to mark their calendars and plan on attending.

I think perhaps if you posted links to the official Website and Facebook group for this convention that you might get more interest from this board. I believe that I have the links for both, but since you're an organizer you might want to post such links in a certain way.

Good luck! Smiley
