All of you makers out there must have cobbled together various gizmos, or abused perfectly innocent domestic appliances, to help you turn out stuff when you have to make a number of similar items.

Here's my paint drying rack (for which, read clothes airer.) bedecked with a batch of barrels for a run of Rayguns. The hooks are some leftovers from a load of hair curler thingies that I stripped down to get the foam bit off.



Come on then, show off your deviousness in tooling up for a bit of batch production.

For  those who do some sheet metal bashing  a few pictures of a cheap easy to make aid.



Polish up a short section of Rail road track and break the edges in a number of useful curves. Use ONLY with metal between the iron and the hammer. For general bashing use the rusty nasty hunk as in photo one. These items are perched on a swage block made and sold by Salt Fork Craftsmen. To me the best hundred dollars I have spent in years.

I have done several rr track anvils. That is a very nice example! Next project I have on the list is turning a section of old trolly track into a double bick horn to mount in a stump.

haha. This is something I may have to attempt. Where do you find available abandoned railroad ties?

And do you spend your summers in Bristol as I will be doing this year?

Most of my RR steel comes from swapping around with other smiths or junk yards. Since 9?11 it is a VERY bad idea to be caught on the RR right of ways. Play it safe and swap around.  If you mean the ren at Bristol. Nope. Have yet to get there. I do on rare occasions attend at Minneapolis. Most of my summers are spent doing SCA events when I am feeling up to the travel.
