Anyone adopted or tried a campaign hat (aka, Smokey Bear, Montana Peak, Mountie, Drill Sergeant, lemon squeezer, et al) hat in their steampunk attire?
E.g.,

It seems period correct enough, having derived from the 1840s/50s period, and certainly was made famous by Badden-Powell before the TOC.

There is a local police supply store that is having a big sale on them and for some reason a straw one in tan that is just my size is crying out to me to be used for some purpose. Certainly stiff felt may be a more period correct option, but straw seems more practical from an actual use perspective, especially since it is quite warm in my area for most of the year, and my grey felt top hat suffices admirably during that period.

You'd think the Steampunk Mounties would have been issued with a steam iron. *sigh*

In their defense, it wasn't uncommon for Mounties to be on patrol for several weeks at a time in the old days. Even by American standards, Canada is a big place!

True. I know of a Mountie (Rheault) who set a record for the longest (in time) dog-sled patrol.

On the topic of Mounties, they have international jurisdiction, which is just cool. Not to mention useful. And they carry MP5s. I'm not gonna get on their bad side.

On the topic of campaign hats, I've been thinking about incorporating one into an outfit; possibly reflective of a veteran of the Spanish-American War. If that comes to fruition I'll be sure to post the results.

How far is all the way, and then if it stops, what's stopping it, and what's behind what's stopping it? So, what's the end, you know, is my question to you."

I admire anyone that can carry off that style of hat. Personally I just look like a dodgy Scout Master.

There have of course been some very impressive Scout Masters, sadly I resemble none of them.  Cheesy
