I'm embarassed to say for me its those horrible little chocolate covered donuts and a glass of milk. Least healthy food on Gods earth.
The YUM factor outweighs the Diabetes factor in this case.

The YUM factor outweighs the Diabetes factor in this case. True enough. But its the amount of fat in those little bombs thats truly frightening. But you know, I ride my bike three miles to and from work, and they're one of the few things that will cheer me up after yet another soul-crushing night on the job. So I'm willing to risk it.

Sounds good sans the diet soda.

...Other than that, I have found that mashed potatoes with eggs (sunny side up) are great against depression. Apparently potoatoes are rich in serotonin. (!) Note to self....

I'm sad. I'm having a large bowl of ice cream and a hot cup of Kenya Bold Tea to counteract this, which got me thinking...
We all get sad. What's your comfort food/beverage?
So.... ....... ...... ..... You never told us if the ice cream and tea helped make you a little less blue.

Wow, it's been quite I while since I started this thread and I'm not sure what got me upset... Given that my post had a more level tone I'm guessing I was already quite alright by the time I posted this so presumably the tea and ice cream did the trick... I do remember that it was cookie dough flavoured ice cream

Isn't it interesting, that food that is comforting is almost always high-calorie too? Cucumbers, lettuce etc. don't have any soothing effect at all, it seems.
I find Cucumbers terribly soothing: just peel 'em into a tepid bath and soak after sunburn.

Theres also a lot to be said about a simple pack of graham crackers and a glass of milk. Theres a treat I've loved since I was an ankle-biter. And a heck of a lot healthier that donuts. Plus they have quite the weird origin. http://www.snopes.com/food/origins/grahamcrackers.asp

I will be the first to admit that I have personal issues with the whole idea of "childhood favorites as comfort food". My mother couldn't cook her way out of a paper sack with both hands, and help. Velveeta grilled cheese sandwiches on Wonder Bread and canned Campbell's tomato soup is still "that crap I had to eat if I was sick as a kid", not at all a comfort. I learned to cook from my various ethnically-diverse friend's families, purely as an act of self defense.
I just spent the last 3 days dealing with the imminent death of one of my oldest friends/my ex-wife's sister/long-term housemate in a terminal-care cancer hospice. On the way home from bringing my son to visit her, I stopped off to pick up a beef brisket to smoke all day tomorrow - one of her favorites. I think this is my new "comfort food". A tribute , a memorial and "something else to think about".
My sincere apologies for being overly-maudlin. It happens.
We all love you, Rose, and always will.
