>shuffles feet<  ...yeah...The Fink dresses a whole lot like I do, actually...I am actually vocalizing laughter witnessing the degree to which we are cut from the same cloth...the furs and bones and feathers, mismatching patterns and bright colors...that's a Brother in Fashion Arms if'n I ever seen one!

Fink looks maybe a bit more light-hearted and dandyish, maybe (I mean that with respect and admiration)?  Whilst I might perhaps be a tad rougher...more...uh...Vagabond-ish? Smiley

Still, them images bring me great joy...welcome, RatFinketc.!

You and the Vagabond are inspiring me. Especially after watching the new Sherlock Holmes movie, the gypsy aesthetic is calling to me, and I think I will have to give in. Besides, its easier to piece together an outfit when its not supposed to match to begin with!

How far is all the way, and then if it stops, what's stopping it, and what's behind what's stopping it? So, what's the end, you know, is my question to you."

Mr. Fink....I'm not sure how to say this, but I feel like you are wearing my house.....

I am also a fan of the gypsy aesthetic.  I can do it with my house, jewelry making, and art, but I've never been able to cross the line with my clothes.  Now that my fiance and I have for the most part settled into a routine, I think I may work a bit more on actually letting my clothes express myself.   Grin

sugarplum, i don't think anyone can truly capture your essence - even film doesn't quite do it justice. RatFinkBoyMicah is what we'd refer to as your "mini" in derby. me? i can't quite claim a steamy or neoVic aesthetic. never really could. i like bits and bobs from different genres. the current fascinations are the influence of the military uniform on modern apparel and the rockabilly/psychobilly/pulp/pin-up styles of the 1940s-early 1960s and how they've been modernised. it means that my wardrobe is a lot of shirtdresses, brass buttons, double-breasted coats, slim-fit bottoms, the ever-present boot...and pink and purple hair. i'll see if i can't get a few photos up in a fortnight or thereabouts...

Different races is truth!  Hahaha!  He's an occupational therapist, I'm a tattoo artist...he helps people for a living, I hurt people for a living!

You know, I have a growing collection of sashes...I think I'm up to round about 7 or 8.

Most of them are actually just women's scarves, hip-scarves, and shawls, collected from goodwills, local thrift shops, local bazaars, bellydancing events, etc...I'd be amazed if you couldn't find a few what caught your fancy given their availability this time of year and the amazing variety of options!

But, can't hate for fixin' to make one.  Generally the best option to get exactly what you want, of course...

It's rank mondongo you have to work this darkman, cove...you'll be missed, I guarantee..

Yeah, I'm thinking of finding colors I like in some wide scarves and sewing them end-to-end as to make them the length I like. That way I get the colors I like too. They got some cheap ones at the shop across from my work.

s'ppose i should clarify...it's not meant so much to mean a twin such as in the movies that i cannot recall the name of offhand.

we refer to each other's progeny as their mini(s), as well as the meat being mentored by the more experienced girls. example - Shot Glass is my biological mini, but Jersey is my derby mini. in the case of the former, genetics and environment ("as long as you live in my house, i say you'll wear pants that fit!") factor into the commonalities; in the case of the latter, similar influences as well as the mentor-mentee roles tend to show up most notably as oft-unintended wardrobe similarities.

someday, eventually, maybe i'll actually watch the film...

admittedly, i'm home by choice as well as misfortune. sadly, my "mini" is out this evening, but venturing into the fray doesn't hold the appeal that it did in younger days.

Right now, I'm actually wearing sand pants, a white, blue and yellow PLAID shirt, and my chocolate vest.

Surprisingly, it's not that bad looking-what's more, throw on my denim jacket, and it makes it very much more PUNK than steam, but still-that's my lucky jacket-I'm'a not let that get away from me, aye?

Again, I'd say that Micah is not VG's "mini." Even more so in this regard. They came upon their respective looks on their own. Just because Micah is new to this forum does not mean he is new to this look nor that he drew inspiration from the good Vagabond. They're independently inspired.
I'll be honest; I'm on occasion worried that I'll become Vagabond's "mini" due to the fact that we have similar style tastes. It's something that we've actually discussed a few times. Thing of it being that I have to dress "normal" for work, so anything that I decide to wear for fun sometimes feels like a put-on to me. VG gets to rock his togs on the daily, savvy? So it ends more natural.
It's all good, though. As long as we're all having fun.

Agreed. Micah's style seems to be very mature, developed over some amount of time. I am just glad he found our little corner of the interwebs and decided to share with us.
(I am a tweedy type personally, but I strongly admire the panache our bolder friends display.)

It seems my bene cove been cutting his eyes regarding the stamfish!  I edge you to keep up the flash tease, such that when bing we to Jersey for this ballum rancum in Jersey come May, we can hocus all them corinthians and nimenogs with our rose lingo.  We might be a bit trumpettish, but nique.  Hard to be Josephs when we're whipsters amongst cogliones.

But don't worry none bout ever becoming my mini, brother!  I do reckon that's nigh impossible...especially because you're bigger than I am! Wink

And you know what, regarding yer conundrum vis-a-vis yer daily work clothes and yer flash duds:  It might be about perspective.  For a year I worked construction in rural VA, so my daily wear was more ruggedly practical than flashy.  Thing is, I thought of THAT as my "work costume" that wasn't "me" (or "me being comfortable in my threads") but was more a professional disguise.  When I went out on the town, when I was by my onesie, and at any other non-work time, I WAS "me", and wearing 'outfits' that were the more wild variety of articles I'm so fond of.
Kinda sounds like you feel your work clothes are your "comfortable being me" clothes...that does make sense as you spend a good bit of time at your work, but temporal considerations don't necessitate perspective, dig?

Savvy.
I think that's the problem, really. I've not had enough time to enjoy just being myself in the context of apparel that I've forgotten what "myself" is. Funny that, working for Eddie Bauer of all places, I was able to be a bit goth and Man in Black. Of course, I wasn't climbing racks of shoes then either! I also went out more those days and didn't spend time cooped up. Looking forward to summer, seriously.

BACK ON TOPIC!

I have a few outfits planned for the Steampunk World's Fair. None of them are sepia in any regard. There's one involving purple and red, and another involving stripes. Cheesy

This may have some relevance actually. It's been posted elsewhere and I assume many of us are familiar with it, but I must confess I had no idea there was an original hand painted colour version.

Well, my first steampunk outfit is going to be brown, but my excuse is: it's actually going to be my FIRST full steampunk emssemble so I went for an easily "identifiable" colour, one that is easily connected to steampunk (although i have began to buy some white, blue and red pieces of clothing for my future steampunk outfits!).

>hearty laughs!<  Ha!  I don't reckon anyone is speaking ill bout the earth tone ensembles!  Though I love the vibrant clashing colors and patters, I do indeed have a number of earth tone ensembles as well.

In the city and during urban travels, I wear all the colors.
In the rural areas, and when undergoing rural adventures, more the earth tones.

Which seems to be more or less the way things were done historically as well.  >shrugs<

Yeah I don't really only wear black either. I believe there is photographic evidence on here somewhere.

I played Alice Madness Returns finally. I still haven't played the first one, so I don't know if it's the same. Each chapter has a different theme and the Mad Hatters domain is a kind of twisted Steamfantasy industrial quarter. Alice's costume changes to suit each environment, guess what colour it is. Cheesy

I would just like to thank all of you for posting on this thread.  As for myself and Kali's Hourglass, we love color!  Besides time traveling pirates ...er umh ...I mean privateers, can hardly afford to be too limited in wardrobe.  We use quite a variety of means to aquire our wardrobe, and if really pressed, can even manage a needle and thread in a pinch, so we have clothing from every century we operate in and every region we have fought major campaigns in.  While we certainly have black and brown in our wardrobe, it is often hard to notice with all the colorful accents around it.  Fair Winds to you!
