Hello. I'm unable to set any picture as my avatar. I may or may not being uploading correctly. Would you mind checking if I've uploaded a .png of a girl with red hair in a blue dress, please?
Thank you.
Hellooooooooooooooooo. Anybody home?

Sorry, your message slipped by unnoticed! I've got no way of checking if there's a picture associated with your account, so could you please explain what process you're using to upload it, and put a copy of the picture in your post (by uploading it elsewhere and adding it in the img tags)? Thanks! ~Longeye~

Hi. Thanks for responding. I'm trying to upload a picture. I hit browse, select my picture (I've tried .png, .jpg, .wmf) and it shows up in the space. I go down to the bottom of the page and hit change profile. It immediately comes back to the profile page with nothing uploaded and the first radio button "Personalized pictures" is selected. Happens no matter what picture I try to up load. As far as I can tell, they aren't large files... Will try to find the picture as an example. How about this one? I can't get anything to stick.

I think I've got it. After you close the file chooser dialogue, you need to navigate (ie. tab to or click in) another area of the form (the Personal Text field will do.) Try that and let us know if it works.
EDIT: Most annoyingly, I am once again unable to get the "I have my own picture" option to work.

Tried that and Dang it! Didn't work. I hit save changes and it acts like nothing has happened.
I appreciate you trying to help though.

Crop your avatar. I can upload the 100x100px version of mine, but not the 103x104px version. EDIT: Most annoyingly, I am once again unable to get the "I have my own picture" option to work.
RE-EDIT: It appears now that the issue is entirely one of image size, and you may safely ignore my previous comment about form navigation. The current limit, as I understand it, is 100x100 pixels.

I'll try that.
I believe it just pasted 'large'. I've used it before with no problem.

Yup, the answer was just two posts above your initial query. Ah, well that would be your problem. As you'll notice, most forumites have an avatar that is a maximum size of 100px x 100px. In order to successfully upload an avatar try one with those maximum dimensions. That should solve your problem, please let me know if it does not.

Ummm...Hi. Nothing is working, still.
I've uploaded avatars before, so I'm pretty sure the files are small enough, etc. I can't upload or link one.
Thanks, anyway.

Are you trying to upload the exact picture you posted above? Because that one isn't 100x100 pixels in size.... ~Longeye~

Something else weird just happened. I tried the 'I have my own pic' and copied the url for a picture from shutterfly. I clicked on another field just to get out of that field and now the picture appears underneth the "personalized picture" radio button??? I have not saved it yet, but i have a snip of it. Any chance I could PM one of you with the snip so you could look at it? Edit: I tried it again and it showed up where the personalized picture should go, even though i've copied the link into "I have my own pic" field. Hit save and nothing saved. This one was a brass elephant from the Museo in Pasadena, CA. I've uploaded that one as an avatar before as well, with no problem. Edit II - just tried to upload this: which is 81x81 and it wouldn't stick either. Thanks, Mrs. W.

Nope. In that case, I suspect the Babbage engines simply don't recognize the URL as belonging to an image.
I downloaded the image, then uploaded it to my iDisk, and you can see the result.
If you want me to, I can do the same with the image you want to use.

The ladybird image, if you were trying to link it direct from where it is hosted, will not be recognised as an image file. Image links for avatars must end in .jpg .gif or similar, encrypted URLs like the one you have linked to will not work I'm afraid.
The second image you have posted is 113px by 150px, maximum size, as we have mentioned a few times, is 100 x 100, simply put, your image is too big for this forum to accept as an avatar.

Thank you all. It was the smallest pic, I could find that I liked. I get that the pictures have to be small.
Thank you.

Right I had this problem but it turns out its just some kind of bug.
~ Set desired photo to 100 pixels by 100 pixels and save to desktop
~Go to Profile tab of website - Forum profile infomation
~Select No picture first and save
~Select I will upload my own picture and locate the 100 pixels by 100 pixels picture saved earlier and select it.
~If you see no update on your profile picture then leave the website and reload and It should soon update to your new profile picture on forum posts.
Hope this helps L~B

That's not a bug, that's your browser cache not refreshing, pressing Ctrl + F5 at the same time will force refresh your cache for the same result.
