When the beeb covered it on breakfast the other morning I thought to myself "Oh to have enough disposable income to buy them!", They are possibly the coolest thing I've ever seen come up for auction (apart from Harrison's 'lesser watch' you plonker Rodney Wink Grin)

Whilst I'm sure it's very exciting they belonged to such a well known royal figure... you have to come down to the fact that some silly sod has forked out 14 grand, for a big saggy old pair of granny pants that more than likely haven't been washed.  Undecided

Perhaps that's why he forked out $14,000 for them! Afficianodos of 'that sort of thing' in Japan buy unwashed used schoolgirl underpants from vending machines in the street. This could just the same sort thing but on a much more sophisticated and classy scale.

Hah! I noticed an article about this somewhere. It did strike me as rather silly that someone would pay so much for the Queen's underthings. I'd rather take that money and buy something else associated with her attire, such as a gown, a robe, or a royal emblem that she wore on her regalia.

Or I could take that money and repay my academic loans. *sigh*

Assuming that something along those lines actually would actually come up for auction..which is fairly unlikely.

True enough, but I was just trying to make a point that, at least for me, the Queen's underthings probably aren't the most desirable of her possessions.

Still, there had to be at least two people who really wanted to own them - so what do I know? Smiley

I suppose the owners of this item could look at two ways..

On the plus side. They now own a unique item of clothing actually owned and worn by one of the greatest monachs in (not just British but World) history. It's a piece of history.

On the minus side..It's her knickers.

I guess you have to weigh it up...
