A question should the time shown at the top of the page reset itself on the change from BST to GMT 'cos mine's still showing BST.  It can be a little confusing near midnight as I get messages for tomorrow

In years past, after the time change I've always had to go into my profile and click "Autodetect Time Zone" again.

So, no.

I just went into 'Look and Layout' in my profile and  changed the time setting to -1 and this has now given me the correct time on my posts.

"Autodetect" isn't a setting, it's a function that changes a setting. When you click "Autodetect" your browser runs a JavaScript which reads your computer's time zone setting at that instant and stores the value on the BG server. That stored value will not change until you run the JavaScript again.

There's a simple reason for this: there are so many different sets of DST rules around the globe (DST in England ended last weekend; DST in Ontario doesn't end until this weekend; Indianna and Saskatchewan don't even use DST) that it would be impractical to ask the server to keep track of them all, and to keep up with the changes. Your personal computer only has to deal with one set of rules, so it's easier on the server if you keep track of it yourself. It might be possible for the server to silently ask your PC when the time changes, but there are likely security issues, and it would still put a somewhat greater load on the server.

TL;DNR: You still have to click on the "Autodetect" link each time your local time changes.
