I'm in Atlanta. Are you looking for Atlanta Steampunks in general or just wondering who is on the forum?

This is interesting.  Seems like we need to create and Alpharetta meet-up sometime considering how many of us have already listed it in our responses.

La Contessa and I reside in a suburb of Atlanta known as Chattanooga.

We are hoping to gather some like minded individuals for some genteel entertainments, once our household affairs are a little more in order.

Cheers!

I've gone to the Chattanooga suburb a few times.  It's just so FAR north of town that we don't go there very often.  Smiley

Wow - where's that?  I am in Chattanooga, which is actually in another state, and I can make it to the 285 ring in just over an hour (barring speed traps).  Of course, I have good road now...

And the right vehicle.

Cheers!

All,

I forgot to post a message last night about this.  I have some items that need a new home that I've listed in the Trading section.  The stuff is free to anyone that wants it, but I'd prefer to pass it on to a local if possible.

Hi Guys,

Major T Tinker and I will be attending Anachroncon in Atlanta in Feb and hope to meet up with some local Steampunks.

We are coming from the UK, so any tips on what to see and where to go are greatfully received. We will have a local Guide for some of our time but we do not want to out stay are welcome. So do we go and visit an other city or state while we are over, and where do you recommend??

What kind of temps should we be prepared for??

Hope to meet you soon.

Your,
Lady Elsie.

I may see you both there.  Still trying to find out if I can have the weekend free.

The temps around here in February are all over the map.  It should be somewhat cool, but I can think of times I've worn nothing more than a t-shirt and jeans to times when my wool coat was required.  Where's my almanac when I need one?

It may be best to plan your wardrobe shortly before you come over, if possible.  That way you can see the trends in the weather patterns and plan accordingly.  If you're coming for an extended stay that may not be possible.  At worst, you could plan clothing mainly for cool weather and some for warmer weather.  At least the warmer-weather clothing doesn't take up as much space.

I wish I could give a more definitive answer.

I just realized I NEVER aswered the question and just said "cool".  Sorry about that!

Average February temps are generally above freezing, but below 60*F.  Cool, but not frosty.

Hope that helps a bit more.

Yes, this is really the correct answer. It can be quite balmy or quite cold. It's kind of a crap shoot.

Hello all. I felt I should toss my hat into this ring, as I reside in a small mark occasionally shown on maps, commonly referred to as Tunnel Hill. We're nestled roughly 20-30 minutes south of Chattanooga and about an hour and a half or so north of Atlanta, depending on traffic of course.

There's an old Victorian cemetery called Oakland Cemetery if you are interested in that kind of thing. Other than that I can't think of much that is very steampunkish in Atlanta.

Well, maybe the Coke museum with all of the all of the machinery, etc.

With all of the neat pictures posted by Dim Horizon, it may be worth a trip to Sloss Furnace, if you're up for the trip.

Trying to think of anything else nearby.

Well, my advice to visitors is to avoid the Coke museum like the plague. They recently redid it, and it was truly abysmal. The entire place feels like it's just a (badly done) advertisement for Coca-Cola (It was like that before, but now it's been "Disneyfied" so it feels even worse).

It's rather far away, but Charleston South Carolina is a lovely town. It has lots of pretty old antebellum houses and churches, and it also has Fort Sumpter.

Sorry I didn't think of this "steamy" spot a few days ago, but tossing it out there in case you'll have time to visit.

The Southeastern Railway Museum - http://www.srmduluth.org/about.shtml

Lots of opportunities to get shots posing with BIG steampunk-ish backdrops.

Hello,

Well we had a brilliant time in Atlanta and did in fact visit Oakland Cemetery, Thank you for the idea Zeppelin Kapitan. We also went to the History centre which had some steamy exhibits.

The high spot of the trip was to meet so many nice steampunks.
We hope to see you again next year.

ACC Art and Craft Show this weekend at the Cobb Galleria.  Several artists have steampunk stuff.  Lots of other great arts and craft.  I have 5 free passes to the show.  PM me and I will give you my cell number.  You can call from the lobby and I can give you a free ticket to see the show.
