The Last Line cordially invites you to meet the publisher and writers of the steampunk compilations Tales from the Asylum, and Beyond the Asylum, at Nostalgia and Comics, Birmingham.

The Last Line or is a new, independent publishing house. It was set up last year with one very particular aim - to support new, often unpublished writers, writing in a specific culture of science-fiction - steampunk - by assisting and ultimately publishing their work.

The Last Line's publications are both written and published by steampunks - for steampunks.

'Tales...' and 'Beyond...' are the first two publications from The Last Line. 'Tales...' was published in September 2010; and 'Beyond...' was launched only a few weeks ago at the UK's largest steampunk convention in Lincoln. Both books originated on the pages of this very forum (and the third volume is currently in the planning stages in the same way).
The books feature a range of tales, through a broad swathe of history. Ghosts, airships, sea monsters, vampires, maddened cult leaders, aliens and more grace the pages.

This is your chance to come and talk to publisher/ writer Arkwright, and to other contributers, to learn more about how the books - and The Last Line itself - came about, and to hear the stories for yourself....

We hope to see you there!

(Please note that this event is the same day as the Steampunk November Nocturne or - why not make a steampunk day of it?!)

Hello all!

If we can figure out a way of leaving a car full of stock for the Noctule parked safely in Brum, the Memsahib and I will be joining you.

It looks doubtful at the moment, though.  Cry

Perhaps one of the more expensive multistory carparks would be safe? From what I remember security at the Arcadian carpark and the Bullring car parks are both quite good. The Arcadian is nearer to Nostalgia and Comics though.

It depends really on wether all of the stock will be concealed. If it's all in the boot, then fine. If it won't fit and there are boxes etc on display I wouldn't risk leaving it ANYWHERE, let alone the centre of my fair city.

may attempt to find this.. big new city for us and a bit timid on the exploring front..

We are travelling down from edinburgh for the nocturne.

will people be wearing their steampunk finery? Ive not yet ventured out in public wearing a costume... (its a little scary lol)

and finally.. are there any car parking facilities near by?

The nearest parking is probably at the Pallasades (over new street station); at the Bullring; or at the Arcadian centre

If you're wanting a general look round the town centre, any of those will be fine for that purpose too...

At the book event, we'll certainly be wearing steampunkery; feel free to join us!  But it's entirely up to you - no one is ever made to feel unwelcome on account of what they're wearing; and I expect people who haven't heard of steampunk muich before will be coming to the event and won't be dressed up particularly...

Hope you can make it!

Thanks, Herr Doktor; a little quieter than I would have liked; but this is the first time we've ventured into territory without a pre-existing steampunk presence.  I think the shop did OK out of it, so they didn't mind too much!
