As an initial proposal, how does 3rd March sound?  That gives us three weeks after the swap-meet... otherwise I think the two might be too close together.

Persons intending to travel by open carriage should select a seat with their backs to the engine, by which means they will avoid the ashes emitted therefrom, that in travelling generally, but particularly through the tunnels, prove a great annoyance; the carriage farthest from the engine will in consequence be found the most desirable.

Who would like to go and see the Leonardo da Vinci exhibition at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery?  And which date would best suit?

I ask as I'm determined to get to it and the thought occurred to me it might be the beginnings of an afternoon meet up in February/ March.

Count me in - no preference for date, as my diaery for the next two months is empty :-}

*raises hand* A day at the museum ?? sounds like a plan, count me in

** UPDATE ** thanks to friends trying my mobile number, I have now located my mobile phone and have been able to speak to Steamblast Mary.  Many thanks those who attempted to help!

M'aidez!

I am supposed to be visiting Steamblast mary tomorrow, and need to finalise arrangements with her, but have mislaid (possibly lost entirely) my mobile phone. whilst she is currently without PC and thus cannot be emailed. just to add to the silliness, my landline phone does not ring (there's some fault that we've never been abel to get to teh bottom of, even tried changing phones). So if anyone reading this that knows both SM and I is able to email me a number on which I can phone her, 'twould be greatly appreciated!

Details for the da Vinci exhibition can be found here, if you happen to be on the old book of faces:

http://www.facebook.com/events/326565577380975/

For those who don't have an account, the plan presently is to meet up at the museum (or rather, outside the museum in Victoria Square) at 12 midday on March 3.  Dependant upon enthusiasm we may then go on to a pub or somesuch after viewing the exhibition...

Lots more to do in March...

The Flatpack Film Festival is on 14-18 March, including a number of black and white films, such as Dickens without words (a series of Dickens adaptations made before 'talkies'); and a free show at the Piccadilly Arcade...  http://www.flatpackfestival.org/home

Closely followed by the Fierce Festival, 29 March - 8th April http://www.wearefierce.org/fierce-festival, with lots of unusual acts including a Secret Show, The Mermaid SHow and living books!

Then there's The Destroyers Album Launch Party (new album has just arrived and it's great!) at the Prince in Moseley on 30th March, and the Enchanted Burlesque on 31st... phew. Anyone invented a time machine yet?

I'm working on it, but at the moment it only goes back three seconds, or forward five years.

You said that last week next Tuesday, James, haven't you fixed it yet?

By the by, I'd like to check interest for a meet-up involving croquet sometime..  Two ways we could do this - either find a park where the stewards won't mind us temporarily putting some hoops down and having a few informal games (with accompanying picnic)  on the most level bit we can find, or, if the interest is there, I could approach local croquet clubs to see whether a group visit could be arranged so that we could try playing on a proper pitch and with full sized/wieght equipment (the equipment I have is 3/4 sized - usable by adults but less hefty than the proper thing!.

For now, I;d just like to know what interest there is in this, preference for informal with picnic or formal.  Once I know that, then if there's sufficient interest, we can start trying to set a date.

Now there's a tidy thing; and me just having 'procured' a boating jacket.... I'd definitely be interested.

Nice to see so many turn up for the Da Vinci event (nine, if memory serves me correctly), although it's a shamethat about half of us were slightly delayed, and so we went around the actual Da Vinci exhibition in two groups, but met up afterwards and then repaired to the Victorian restaurant in North Arcade, which is definitely worth visiting again. This has an upstairs much larger than I'd realised (I'd not been upstairs before) and was, I thought, rather splendid!  Some then went on to a vintage fair at The Custard Factory, although I had to make my farewells and depart at that point.

It was so nice to meet up again (and make a few new acquaintances).  Seems we also have a few suggestions for possible future meet-ups:

1. A group outing to see The Artist;

2. Picnic and croquet;

3. Visit to the Pugin, Durer and the Gothic exhibition at the Barber Institute.

The Electric is showing The Artist until Thursday, which means I won't be able to make it (cheers, work  Undecided ), but if anybody closer into Birmingham wants to go and see it, it's showing at 6PM most evenings.

I am so sorry to have missed you all at the da Vinci exhibition outing. Sadly, ill-health has kept us more-or-less house-bound for the last several days.  Sad

Hopefully we will be well and available for the next outing/s.

I'm feeling rather better, thank you Esme. Unfortunately the Memsahib's new medication seems to have some unpleasant side effects. Back to the Doctor on Monday.  Sad

After a week that has seen temperatures in the 20's, I think we can say that winter is over and so I've started a Spring thread here

Just watch it snow on Monday now...
