Bugger -

I am flying out of Australia on the 28th of January to England for two weeks, to help my father move his mother (who is 96 and thinks that she is a Panzer Tank) into a high care nursing home.

We leave on Saturday 11th Feb at 2pm!

I would have LOVED to come to the stuff swap to meet some of the fine folk I have conversed with on the forum!

I do hope a venue can be found. I probably don’t have anything to swap but would love to come anyway just for a chat and to meet people.

URGENT MESSAGE - EVENT CANCELLATION
Dear All,

My apologies for having to do this, but with less than 2 weeks to go, and no appropriate venue have been obtained, I will now have to cancel this event.

It appears that Birmingham is now in the grip of 'cocktail masterclass' fever; hence most places that hired out their spare rooms for next to nothing on a Saturday afternoon are now able to command £25 a head from would-be mixologists. The odd few that haven't are either booked, or are in places conducive to neither public transport nor car parking. Given the distance that many people will have to travel; and the amount of stuff they are likely to bring (based on last years mountains), unfortunately transport connections are vital!

Many thanks for your interest in the event; hopefully I will be able to plan another one in the future with more venue success. Also thanks to those who suggested places to try. Sadly, it was not to be on this occasion.

Ah well - no harm done in cancelling now I suspect!

I'll still be coming down to Brum on the 11th, I'll just spend my time slightly differently now Cheesy

I know places in Cardiff that hire for free, want me to start asking? Or is that too out of people's way? It is about an hours train ride from Brum and I believe there is a Megabus service too......

Oh dear, that's a shame. Got a couple of cases-full, so Will watch this space for details of a later one. Smiley

As for cocktail masterclasses, they certainly seem to be the in-thing for hen parties right now, having been looking into those things. Very different to when I organised my friend's when it was all about drinking them Wink

oh what a shame, was looking forward to catching up with people. Do you think anyone would be interested if we moved it to Leicester? Not that I know of any venues offhand but we do know one or two others in the area who might be able to help?

hi all,
Thanks for the suggestions.
The main reason people wanted B'ham as location was because it was accessible by public transport, and the venue we had in mind also had good access and parking. It was also free, as long as between us we spent enough at the bar to cover the deposit.

Church halls are a good idea- but none go central B'ham has good parking. Those outside aren't easy to get to by public transport if you don't know the area. And there's usually a hire charge involved.

There were pubs outside the centre that would be suitable- but again, not easy to get to on the bus!

Moving it outside of B'ham could work- if people are willing to go (on the original vote, some people felt Leicester was too far)- so over to you guys outside Brum if that's feasible!

Well Malika offered the space centre for free I believe, about the same distance frimc a train station as the beam venue (which was nearly £7 in a taxi).

It will happen again, some place, somewhere...    Smiley

Well I'd be more than happy with Leicester! Believe there's parking at the Space Centre as well isn't there? I could always pick some people up from the station (although I have less than no sense of direction, satnav should save me there ....)

We could happily travel to other midlands locations if not too far out from Birmingham or Worcestershire, thanks for all your hard work!!

The church hall idea seems a good one. For example, I know of one, fairly sizeable, as church halls go, easily accessible by west midland transport. I'm sure as there are others, better suited to the task at hand. Though I acknowledge that it probably wont be operational by next week.
