Well, not you're country so much as Glasgow, well really just the Glasgow University E. Steampunk Society (GUeSS) - but we do need you!

Our third annual and awesome "Glasgow by Gaslight" variety show is coming up on October 22nd, and this year we want to get acts from further afield than our own tiny burgh. We have a few acts lined up already, but we would love to have 4-5 more short routines to go up on the stage at the Britannia Panopticon Music Hall this year. So Scottish Steampunks from Edinburgh, Aberdeen, St Andrews, The Boarders, The Highlands, the Western Isles, John o' Groats, everywhere, come on out and show us what you can do!

What we're looking for is anyone with a performing talent, of just about any kind, who can do a 2-10 minute turn on the stage, at 1pm and again at 3pm on Saturday October 22nd in Glasgow. Of course we would like it to be properly Steamy, but we are pretty flexible with the definition. Previous acts have included dancers, comics, magicians, jugglers, musicians. It's a variety show, anything goes!

And even if you have no desire to be on the stage, do by all means come out and join us for the show. It will be a fantastic day out, and we will have a fantastic night in with some pints after.

I am no great shakes as a singer but bearing in mind the steamcarol singers of last year perhaps we could do a massed voice choir to sing some steam songs? I have a number of suitable songs(traditional, anon, and music hall) that would work if someone could play a piano to keep us going.

Tis indeed a good idea. Several of us had long ago postulated a gentleman's quartet, but external duties have prevented it yet again. I shall see what a chorale arrangement we might be able to assemble. =)

Sorry, I'm not talented in a "entertaining" way.

If I assemble a 'set' of 4 songs can we find a thursday between us for a practice somewhere with a piano?

I have in mind:
William Brown http://www.feniks.com/skb/music/lull23.html
Come Take a Trip on My Airship   http://libraries.mit.edu/music/sheetmusic/childpages/cometakeatrip.html
William Doxford song (with actions) http://www.biship.com/song.htm (about a third of the way down the page)
Those magnificent men http://www.gugalyrics.com/FRED-THOSE-MAGNIFICENT-MEN-IN-THEIR-FLYING-MACHINES-LYRICS/2030/

The airship song is the only one for I have sheet music, however. William brown is a very simple tune and the Doxford song is the tune to Macnamaras band and surely the music for the magnificent men must be widely available.

Excellent! Well I know I'd like to get this together, but we'll need the support of the group. Is there any chance you can bring recordings of any of these along on Tuesday so we can discuss it?

depends how long you will be at the QMU. I am chair of the seacadets and have to do their AGM down at the ship that evening, starting at 1830 so am most unlikely to be able to get to the QMU before 2000hrs.
recordings: probably, apart from the airship song, but I do have sheetmusic for that: really need a piano or accordion or something to keep us in tune.
