Dear Old Fortean times has an interesting article about Steampunk: a well researched potted history of the genre from it's start in fiction up to it's crossover into the 'real' world.

Brassgoggles also gets a mention.

Oooh! That's one of the regular journals we get here at the library. I shall keep an eye out for that.

I rarely buy this tome anymore. But as I'm off to the shop to do the lottery I might as well pick one up.  Grin

I usually buy it, so will look on with interest. There is a bit of cross fertilisation between Forteana and Steampunk in my own stuff e.g. Steampunk Vampire Hunting Kit, Feejee Mermaid etc.

And Herr Doktor? No mention of you or does modesty forbid?

Dennis Hopper is well known for having turned up naked, in a drug-addled stuper, on a hiway in the middle of New Mexico once upon a time....

And..?

Although, strangely, Fortean Times has heard of The DeeMan (cue Twilight Zone theme)

If you're interested in cryptozoology, weird science and technology, ghosts, UFOs, etc., Fortean Times is probably the best magazine around. It generally strikes an intelligently sceptical middle course between the "Gee-whiz-how-awesome, my-baby was-fathered-by-an-alien" kind of wide-eyed wacko gullibility, and the Skeptical Inquirer-type "we already know all the laws of the Universe, so what you claim to have seen didn't happen" kind of armchair debunkery.

Past issues have included articles on Conan Doyle, Houdini, Lovecraft, Aleister Crowley, timewarps, mermaids, haunted inns, vampires, vampire-hunting kits.... there are also book, film and game reviews (no punches pulled), readers' letters, short news reports on odd happenings such as fishfalls, ice meteorites, odd inventions, two-headed snakes, six-legged frogs.... all excellent Steampunk source material.

I never miss an issue if I can help it.

Not forgeting the "The Illustrated Police News (Law Courts & Weekly Record)"* articles.

The current one is about Vincent de Groof the flying man  (sorry about the lack of info).

Maybe someone in the Lowlands can find more info about him?

Sometimes the articles are quite SP.
