I have been commissioned by the Glasgow City Marketing Bureau to develop the content for a "Geek Guide to Glasgow". This will be a predominantly online resource with some hardcopy downloads too and will offer some offbeat ideas for the technically-minded tourist in the City of Glasgow.  The concept is similar to The Geek Atlas http://www.geekatlas.com , but more locally focussed.

I would be glad of any ideas relating to any area of pure or applied sciences/technology, which might include such things as:

A building that was the first (or very early adopter) to use a new technology/materials
A building that is the last known standing of its type/use
Location of a discovery or where a well known person (or unsung hero) lived/worked (even if the original building is now gone)
Memorials of any kind
Stories, myths even, relating to people or locations, in relation to technology

I have to have the first draft ready for end of March, so any ideas that come to mind - please let me know asap, so that I can get the research and photography done quickly.

Thanks

The Lion Chambers at 172 Hope Street, 1904-07 was one of the earliest reinforced concrete buildings in Glasgow and possible in Scotland.

Gardeners Warehouse in Jamaica Street dates from 1856, and is the oldest completely cast iron fronted commercial building in Britain. It is now The Crystal Palace Pub.

I can remember when it was Gardeners Warehouse selling furniture etc. I still have a carpet that I bought there in the 1980's

Unfortunately I do not have any information on your other points. Smiley

Thanks, Palmyrin. I shall probably include the pub as one of a small number of places to eat or drink where the eating or drinking isnt the point of going there!
