I've been a fan of Tolkien and especially his dwarves since my mother started reading The Hobbit to me as a child.

Have you seen the dwarves from the new Hobbit movie? They're sporting some rather unique and quite impressive facial hair.

Their beards just look longer because their chins are closer to the ground!

I was so disappointed in the attempt at The Lord of the Rings that I am not paying any attention to this production of The Hobbit. So I'm afraid I haven't seen stills or anything from it.

Seriously? I loved those movies. They may not have been exactly like the books, but they were still great films in my opinion.

After six years of hype about 'how true to the books' they were being, I got rather peeved when they deviated, significantly, in the first scenes. It did not improve, in my opinion. I do not mind character compression, or leaving out some of the secondary (or tertiary) sub-plots. Although I'd love for SOMEONE to leave in Bombadil. They changed characterizations, they changed relationships, they added whole sequences to show off special effects when they left actual plot out. I can accept that they were good movies. They were not a faithful telling of the original stories. I can rant about this for days, but this is neither the time nor place.

I grew it out for reenacting civil war. just got back from the battle of manassas. the temperatures were insane all weekend, but the show must go on! anyways, a few quick shots. my artillery uniform is still fermenting in the back of the truck, I'm waiting for it to fall asleep before dragging it inside. otto capt smith

Great photos there, I had planned on heading down for the battle anniversary, but it ended up also being my grandmothers birthday. I'm sure it was a sight to see. Great shot with the fez.

Greatescaper...that's a great 'tache and goatee combo you've got going on there. You need to get a bit of wax on the 'tache tips, though and get a nice curl on the end.
Otto Von Pifka..what superbly groomed beard you have! May I ask where you got that rather cool crescent moon badge on your Fez?

Isn't it considered rather naughty for a lady to show her 'beard' in public?

Isn't it considered rather naughty for a lady to show her 'beard' in public? On a related sidenote, it is along similar humor that I often claim when playing fantasy RPGs that, while they lack facial hair like their male counterparts, female dwarves still have beards...

the badge is homemade, I have a second larger one too. I need to get around to making a mold of them.

My gal is all punk, but little steam. The scales around her mouth and jaw are very white, but she's got her mohawk stripe running a good five inches from head to back, and then again about eight inches from back to tail.
And I'm sorry for derailing this! Post photos of your glorious 'staches, gentlemen!
