For those gentlemen trying to tame unruly, recalcitrant or asymmetrical mustacchioes, may I recommend 'Bounder' extra firm wax from Mr Wax.

I apologize if this has been posted in this thread, but a Brassgoggles colleague, Mr. Sean Patrick O-Byrne, posted this in another thread, and amused me to no end Dali quotes are important also. Favourites... ... Since I don't smoke, I decided to grow a mustache - it is better for the health. However, I always carried a jewel-studded cigarette case in which, instead of tobacco, were carefully placed several mustaches, Adolphe Menjou style. I offered them politely to my friends: "Mustache? Mustache? Mustache?" Nobody dared to touch them. This was my test regarding the sacred aspect of mustaches.

What an inspiring thread! Lazily I've allowed my facial hair to develop unkept and untrained. Most uncivilised. Now rather than shaving it all off I'm rather tempted to make the most of the hair which has appeared on my face.

I've been cultivating a handlebar for over a month, and finally it is starting to get to the length where I can begin to train it with wax. A few things I'm learning with this: Firstly, my facial hair grows really, really slowly Secondly, it tends to be really thin, which is fine except for the fact that the hair on my head... isn't. Thirdly, it appears to be almost blonde, whereas the hair on my head is dark brown This may not end well

Mr Harrison, we need photographic proof of the new facial hair.
Mine is the complete opposite of yours Sir, my facial hair grows very thick and fast, unlike the hair on my head!

..Thirdly, it appears to be almost blonde, whereas the hair on my head is dark brown Get Clubman brown moustache wax. A few gentle dabs throughout the moustache can be massaged and easily blended in so that the colour matches your hair colour, while a generous amount on the ends will train them into the right shape. With a few short minutes in front of the mirror, you'll be sporting a fine upper-lip embellishment whose shape and colour lasts all day! I use Clubman brown wax to cover the white bits in my beard - as you can see from my avatar I have a nasty case of white-beard-itis while my moustache is still its normal colour. I just dab a tad of the wax on the white, then blend it in and in two minutes I look ten years younger and with facial hair that looks natural and no longer looks as if I'm wearing some kind of false Santa beard. I find coloured wax works far better and quicker than those tiresome bleach-based beard-colouring products. Those treatments have to be re-applied every few days and it's so easy to overdo it so that the beard looks too dark and obviously artificial. With the wax, it's there in case you need to look good for any event, and if you make a mistake in applying it, you can just rub it off with a towel and try again.

Funnily enough I did order some Clubman's Wax just this morning, to tame it. Unfortunately at the time I didn't know I could get brown wax- I simply ordered the neutral stuff WARNING: Epically bad daguerreotype alarm. The author takes no responsibilty for nightmares induced by the perusal of these images. View at own risk. The cumulative total of five-and-a-half weeks of neglecting to shave my upper lip. It took three weeks for even friends to notice...

I am attempting to grow some sort of facial hair, though I am not sure how well it will work. I have always assumed that i am simply unable to grow significant facial hair, but I realized that I have never really tried, so we'll see what happens! I have no pictures yet, but I will definitely post a pic when I have one.

Since the start of the year I've sported a Franz Jospeh (as seen in my avatar) however the amount of grey..well..white hair in the side whiskers has bugged me since I grew them. So, last night I decided that I would shave off the side whiskers along my jaw line and just leave the 'tache and sideburns. My 'tache is starting to even out (one side tends to grow thicker than the other) and I can at least get a nice curl to the ends now. I'll be getting my PC back from the repairers this weekend and I'll endeavour to get the Countess to take a photo and post it. Must get some 'tache wax, though...

I'm going on some job interviews soon, so I may have to trim this back a bit to look "respectable" but this is the state of my moustache currently.

That's a perfectly respectable moustache! An employer would have to be completely crazy not to hire its owner on the spot! The moustache alone implies a level of competence and self-confidence that most men can only dream of attaining. Such moustaches were common on the Northwest Frontier of the British Empire, among the British Army's senior NCOs, and must have stricken fear into many an Afghan tribesman's heart. I only wish mine looked so distinguished. By Jove! A man could easily command a British Battlecruiser during the Great War with such a moustache and beard.

As a gentleman, I am taking part in Movember to raise money for male cancers. As such, I shaved off my beard on the 1st and have been growing a moustache since then. Here's what 12 days' growth has given me. It's hardly long enough to twirl, nor particularly suited to my face, but it does have its own roguish charm. If I were ever a RFC airman, that would be the 'tache for me, I think...

In the interest of keeping the thread informed as to various beard and moustache goings-on, a bit of news:
I will shortly be leaving the fine port of Groton, CT for points unknown beneath the Atlantic Ocean, and will thusly be participating in a time-honored Naval tradition. It's time for the 3rd semi-annual USS New Hampshire 'Stache Bash!
Pictures will be forthcoming, most likely whenever I pull into port.

Right-o, this is my moustache six weeks to the day after I started growing it (and three days after it finally got long enough to start waxing and training it ) Spoilered so as not to alarm delicate ladies/ scare children/ sour fresh milk/ summon Cthulhu.... Although it looks quite thin in the photos, it does have a nice length and feel to it now.

James, you look sad ! (?) It (the 'tache) is looking most becoming of a young and upcoming gentleman.
I have not cut the facial lawn since someone accused me of looking like James May (not that bad, I guess ... ha!!).
It's getting quite thick too. and really gray. Maybe I'll keep it. I'll cut it into some fun shape at the very least.
I had cut it off just before my 50th birthday - it took 20 years off! Actually my mane is mostly gray, but my well water tends to dye the white parts reddish - so its dark blond, black and red (and long)

No, that's just my general expression I'm stunningly, worringly inept when it comes to taking self-portraits with a camera In fact, come to think of it, whenever friends take photos of me I'm either a) gurning horrifically, b) pulling some sort of pose and failing, or c) (most often) wandering blindly into shot oblivious to the fact they're taking a photo. I'm surprised I have yet to make a camera commit suicide

Unfortunately, as a secondary student, institutional regulations prevent me from growing either a beard or moustache. However, summer holidays commence in just over two weeks, giving me almost nine weeks of facial hair freedom. I intend to put this period to good use.
