Mine grows in pretty evenly, but the color is random. My natural hair color is dirty blonde, but for the most part my beard comes in red(I look like a viking) and there white patches on either side of my soul patch just below my lip, and other inconsitancies in color.

I've noticed a lot of guys I know (with a European background) have a good deal of red in their beards, regardless of their hair colour. I always wonder why...

When I was much younger, in high school, in fact, 2 of my friends and I had similar-colored "dirt brown" hair.
We looked nothing alike, however. After graduation, we all let our beards and moustaches grow out, and all 3 of us had significantly-red facial hair. After that, we were constantly-asked if we were brothers.

Just an oddness of genetics, I suppose.

I have a similar yet completely different situation. For some reason, small patches of my beard (particularly just below my lip) grow in completely colorless. Not blond or gray, but translucent. The rest of my facial hair and all the hair on my head is a very medium brown. It's odd.

HELP!
So I left my sideburn/beard grow for almost 2 months, Sadly they do not connect to my goatee.
they are semi thick, not fluffy or whatever though
my question is, what the hell do I do with them now and how to I trim them nicely?
I never worked on a beard or how to trim it or make it look straight with a razor before.

I don't have any real good advice, just how I learned, through trial and error. I still can't keep a set of mutton chops for very long because I always end up taking too much off one side, and having to even them out, and then taking to much of the other. Lots of back and forth like that, and I just end up shaving them off. But in a way thats the good thing about facial hair, if you cut it, it still grows, so there will always be another chance to figure it out.
As far as the side burn area not meeting your goatee, some people just aren't able to grow a full beard.

And unreleated to answering your post Novercalis, I've started growing a handlebar mustache. It will be for halloween while I'm dressing up as a steampunk airship pirate. I'm keeping a full beard untill just before halloween, from past facial hair experiments I think I look a bit odd with a mustache and have never worn one. While it's all growing I'm training the mustache all the while. It's just got a cute little curl to it so far, but I shall update with pictures when it takes better shape.

I've seen that as well! I have an Asian friend who gets that, particularly just under the centre of his lip and partway up his jawline. It's like glass fibres! He's normally clean-shaven though... he just gets lazy sometimes.

How about heading to the barber's, describing the general idea of what you would like, and watching very closely how he does it? I have a lot of friends who do that with their (head-)hair -- getting a style that needs frequent trimming and maintenance, but saving money by watching and thus working out how to do it themselves.

I've got a full head and face(well, almost) of red hair and have the same problem, it makes my beard look all crap and patchy.

For patchy beard issues it has been my personal experience that you just need to give it more time. Facial hair generally does not grow in at the same rate and I would get frustrated and shave it all off after two months. My wife convinced me to give it more time on my third attempt, lo and behold the two problem areas filled right in. Patience grasshopper, patience.

I would have to guess that it's derived from the Vikings. They got around a bit, back in the day.

Some of the vikings are still around, they are called Draum, and are based in Leicester. Friendly bunch, they even take the kindness to raise you from the dead once they have killed you.

They also appear to have a degree of red in the hair department.

I absolutely adore this thread. Sadly, I don't have much facial hair to share with you lot because I used up my last set of Accoutrements' "Stylish Mustaches" a while ago.

However, I stumbled upon this rather wonderful blog about moustaches of the 19th century. Hopefully, it'll provide some inspiration.

In my geology class we visited a quarry recently, and had to wear hard hats and high-visibility vests. I did have an urge to put on a fake biker moustache, to look like someone from The Village People.  Smiley

Tickles is my favorite parasite pal. Just so long as he stays on top of the pencil where he belongs.

Archies is not as cool as Axe Man Surplus in Minneapolis though. Used to be able to get all kinds of diodes, gears, wires, mercury switches, and the like there. I presume it still exists.

Ahoy hoy. I was going to shave, but decided to just make something out of it instead.
Now I have two questions;
A) Is it steamy?
B) Is it good lookin'?
