Having watched TV's 'Doctor Who' on saturday, I thought it might be nice to make a Sonic Cane like his. So, having a spare 11th Doctor sonic, an old pool cue, a 60mm plastic sphere and a long weekend to hand, I thought I'd make one. Works just like the one on the show, only real difference is mine has a taper, whereas the one on TV was straight. It's a little bit of a fast and dirty build, and the four part ball section needs some fine tuning, but it'll do for now!

Excellently executed, sir!
It was only a matter of time, but not very much time, it transpires...

A proper cane shaft should have a taper, so yours is correct, the official prop is incorrect. I suspect they had two, one to use as a cane with a solid head and the second opening sonic head. As a bonus it would appear that yours has an additional setting allowing it to be used to play pool!
Very nicely done sir! I claim responsibilty for the pocket watch with Mr Cornell, but I suspect you may have inspired the sonic cane with your steampunk sonic screwdrivers. I wonder when character options will make theirs?

Quick check on Google, no one else has posted their own version yet. Herr Doktor definitely looks to have been the first. I spent the weekend finishing an exhibit for The Asylum, and no it isn't a robot jellyfish, but yes it has featured in Doctor Who, and no it isn't my Steampunk RC Dalek. You will just have to come and see

Amazing! Just amazing. I can't believe something could be made so well so quickly. Quite the feat.
I expect your Robot Amy Pond is halfway completed.
Well done, sir.

Oh I'll just bash out this working replica of the sonic cane over a weekend.... I'm in awe of the speed you work at and you're eye for detail! Of course , it helps that you had all the required parts needed just sitting around...

Of course you are! 'Tis I that am unworthy of such praise! PS: I owe you a gin. PPS: Would you be surprised to know that I was unhappy with the ball mech. and switch, and have reworked it and remade the switch as a spring-loaded version with a silver rather than brass button?
