Since the GC#8 has fizzled out a bit (deadline went by 3 weeks ago, last post in the thread about 4 weeks ago) I am proposing a new challenge. Now I'm going to make it more interesting for people to join by adding a small prize for the winner: a 3 month Pro membership of instructables.com!

On your travels to faraway lands, you have picked up rumors of treasures the world has never seen, hidden away in a maze of caves deep in the jungle.. For days you trek through the thick undergrowth when finally you reach a mountain range. After exploring treacherous mountain paths for what seems like ages, you stumble upon the entrance of the cave system. Immediately you're overwhelmed by a mixture of emotions: you're glad you found the place, that's for sure.. and it's definitely an awe-inspiring sight; a gaping hole in the side of the mountain, leading to a cavernous space large enough to hold a small pyramid.. you're also a bit worried: for once the myth seemed, if anything, an understatement of the real situation.. if you're going to be exploring these caves, you'll definitely need a good source of light!

Luckily, you're traveling proper Victorian style: absolutely Solo when it comes to any and all discoveries you might make, but on the other side of camera lenses are hordes of porters carrying with them pretty much everything a well-off Steampunk gent or lady could wish for.. Off you go, ramsack your luggage, looking for that bright idea, a luminous invention to shed light on the situation..

You may use any and all item your SP character might possibly take with him/her while traveling. Go nuts, as long as you have a plausible explanation or backstory for the parts you used!

Rules:
   - You do not have to be a gentleman to enter this challenge. Scallywags and Ladies allowed.
   - You must post in this thread that you are participating to be counted in the challenge.
   - You may use what ever tools to build your creation that are at your disposal. Ie: hammer, glue, screwdriver, ect.
   - You will have one month to make your creation from the appointed start time.
   - Pictures of the finished creation must be posted on the finishing day by midnight your time.
   - I'll pick a winner at the end of September. The winner will receive a code good for a 3 month PRO membership of instructables.com!
   - Have Fun!!

I'll bite, I've been meaning to get into spelunking.   Grin

Any specific continent or is that also open to interpretation?

Is it alright that we ban anyone who speaks French or specifically lives in France, in doing some historical research I realize that they have an unfair advantage.   Grin  I am kidding.

I'll give it a go.

I'd meant to ask in the last thread if someone else wanted to pick up the next challange, nice to see someone did anyways.

I figure light is light, pretty much wherever you go! You can make it as simple as a candleholder, or as complicated as underwater lighting.. keep in mind though; you'll be  exploring caves, and unless you find yourself a portable power source, it'll be one heck of an extension cable! Grin

Hmmm, I've had some plans for a project of this nature for my character for a while. Might be a good time to follow through on said plans. Please accept my declaration of participation for this Challenge. Smiley

Aha! Felicitious timing - I'm about to undertake my first pair of goggles (been paging through the 99+ page thread in Anatomical for inspiration), and adding a light source to them is high on my list of "Optional Awesomeness", if I can develop the necessary modding chops by the end of September... Which, since there's a local SF con that I'd like to debut my outfit at in October, works out nicely.

Now to find some tiny copper flanges...

I would love to get my fangs into this, alas I am discovering this a tad bit late! Too bad the last time I paused time (you can't actually stop it... but that's a lecture for another time!) I broke part my TDD (Time Dilatation Device) and one of my ESCs (Energy Storage Container) not only that but the recoil of time coming suddenly un-paused caused an earthquake! Anyways... one quick question... does the device have to be built starting now or can I have already started on it... I have many light-type steampunk creations in various stages of completion... Oh...more question does anyone have a wormhole generator? I need one to make another ESC...

Feel free to enter previously-half-completed projects.. if we haven't seen it before, it might as well be a new project, no?
