The League of Bournemouth Steampunks and friends have been invited to take part in a re-interpretation of Edwardian Bournemouth's little known Grand Grotesque Carnival of 1910. This is planned to be a surreal lantern-lit procession in Bournemouth on Saturday 24th September, as part of 'Late Night' in Bournemouth's Arts by the Sea' festival.

The starting point for the procession will in the seafront/BIC area of the town, starting at 19:00 and ending 20:00 ish. Final details including start/finish locations and and procession route have yet to be confirmed. Note you will need to be there before 19:00 (see below).

For early birds, meet from 16:00 onwards in the Boscombe Vintage Market, being held on this night in the Lower Gardens, central Bournemouth.

The main meet-up prior to the procession will probably be around 18:00 (location to be confirmed).

We are looking at options for an appropriate location/venue for a social gathering after the procession (there will be lots of things happening in town).

Infomation on this event can be found in the following document, which will be updated as we approach the event date:

Dresscode : Steampunk (to quote one of the organisers "I'd like the Steam Punks .... looking as Steam Punky (OTT) as possible + goggles or mask")

I have also created a Facebook event for this:

As a taster, here is a picture of the original 1910 carnival:

This is working up to be a great event. So far 23 confirmed attendees via the League of Bournemouth Steampunks' Facebook event page, on top of those coming to the procession via the organisers' normal channels.

Thread bumped!

This looks like being a great little event, promising the profile of steampunks on the South Coast and open the door to future arts projects in the Bournemouth area.

Hussah! We are confirmed and looking forward to it. Now seeing how many glowy bits I can get together to festoon the outfits! Do I have time to run out a couple of masks I wonder......
