I spent lots of time directing people both in my cell and in the street/pub and was thanked profusely but spent a ot more times trying to explain "us" and "Steampunk" to locals.

Strangely enough (and similarly to yourself) ........ I had three imps on and wandered round for most of the weekend and didn't have any questions from other steampunks but quite a few from the locals asking what we were all about.

Had quite an interesting conversation at the Weds meet last night about this.  We talked about wearing bigger badges, embroidered patches, even little Lincolnshire flags on hats for next time.  We talked about how many people had asked for directions, help and advice, and thought that with all things considered, we'd been useful, but not worked that hard.  I thought that we possibly needed to make our presence more obvious next time, but then someone said that it could be that part of the Steampunk ethic was one that people would rather explore and enjoy discovering things themselves, without feeling the need for someone to 'hold their hand', and I had to agree.  When you think about the outfits we wear, the different crafts people have, the creations we produce, it shows a real independence of spirit.  People also do a lot of research beforehand, and post questions on various forums, not just here.

So, for next year, what would people like?  A more obvious presence, or just enjoy the chance to explore and lose yourself in the uphill area?  Was there anything else we could have helped with?

I think a bigger thing would be a good idea. I think my Imp got mixed in with the various other trinkets and shinies I was wearing!

Regarding the subject of The Imp badges being so small maybe next year people (ye olde local folk) could have the Lincolnshire flag on them in someway, possibly badges / stickers / maybe a small flag tied to clothing or around the wrist / neck bandana etc? however people want to wear them basically.

The flag is obvious and it is seen hanging above shops and buildings all around the city, I think there are about 4 flying from the Magna Carta pub alone.

Just a thought [:
