The steampunk clock calendar yahoo widget now has a swinging pendulum.

Some machines may take exception to the pendulum and use a lot of cpu and then refuse to show the configuration page to turn the pendulum off. I don't know why this is... To get round this minor problem I have disabled it by default and added the option to turn off the pendulum simply by clicking on it.

The maths behind this are not too complex but require some processing from the cpu so you may want to turn it off altogether on a slow machine. I am researching a less intensive method.

The widget has also been added to Yahoo widgets and gratifyingly, forty or so people have already downloaded it.

http://widgets.yahoo.com/widgets/steampunk-clock-calendar

It should be a useful adjunct to your Steampunk desktop.

Lovely, I have just put a new version with tocks and chimes on the yahoo widget site but it'll take a couple of days to get there. Yahoo likes to look at them first...

I will post it on my own site for downloading too sometime tomorrow.  The chiming works, need to sort out the ticks, sometimes they go quiet, also not all the muting options currently work all the time.

The mp3 files are a little large too so if anyone can direct me to a good mp3 compression tool that works and is open source or free I would really appreciate the help. I always prefer a recommendation for a good tool.

Once the bugs are ironed out I'll stick the alarm clock functionality in.

Nice to see 250+people have downloaded it (in fact it is probably more as the yahoo count is only updated daily), it may become a standard item for the steampunk desktop.

I now have 577 downloads and counting...

The latest version 0.9 has a few things fixed. it chimes and ticks, it has some new levers/switches and most of the configuration options work. Still plenty to do though, the alarm mechanism (next) then some bug-fixing and functionally it will be complete, however there is some tuning to do as the pendulum uses too much cpu.

Get the latest version from the yahoo download page, leave it for couple of days to allow the new version to get onto Yahoo, it takes a while, 0.8 has only just come through.

The Steampunk Clock/Calendar Yahoo widget is now ready for downloading and usage. It is still beta and some functionality does not work/missing but basically it provides time/date.

The pendulum has been disabled until I can figure out how to do it, the configuration pages need to be connected to the program, the slider slides but does not yet do anything. But as a simple calendar it works and is very Steam Punk.

Please report any problems back to me.
super looking but how do I open and work it???

Greetings, all!

My first post to the forums and all that...

I'm playing with a rather reserved theme for Gnome.

Here's what I have so far:

Full size should be visible here.

Hopefully I'll have improved icons in which I'll include in an update.

Terribly glad to have found the forum.

The Steampunk calendar/clock has just had 835 downloads ! Thanks for that.

The latest version has just been queued for submission (might take a week), you can get version 0.11 here
http://lightquick.co.uk/downloads/steampunk-clock-calendar-yahoo-widget.html

If you would be SO kind as to vote positively for it here: I would really appreciate it.

by the way, it now looks like this:

press A enables the slider

The slider does not do anything at the moment - slider is being worked upon now, just getting the maths right.

Hey folks, this is my second post after my introductory thread one. As usual, I should be working on an essay, but instead I converted a fairly standard Ubuntu Maverick Theme into this:

I hope you like it.

Chaps/Ladies,

The steampunk clock/calendar has had over a 1,000 downloads, who said steampunk was dead?

It is now in it's fourteenth incarnation and it almost works in all respects, it now has an appropriately high tech visual display screen. The alarm system is next, then some significant rejigging and retuning for reasons of speed and performance. Please go to yahoo widgets and type steampunk in the search box, it is still the only truly full steampunk widget. Please give it good feedback too, it really helps. I may be encouraged to do another...

I love the idea as I was a fan of the game and like the clock; however I cant get Yahoo widgets to work when I click on the Yahoo download link I get a page of gobbledygook which then crashes my browser, any ideas?

Well, I don't know what you have done or what you are using, so I have to guess a solution. First of all you need yahoo widgets installed on your machine so you have to download it. I use firefox and have previously noticed a few problems with Yahoo downloads when using firefox.

Instead, try using IE8/9 and download the Yahoo widget software. Then when this is complete you should be able to download and install the steampunk clock.

If it still does not work try selectively disabling (but only temporarily) any anti virus/firewall tools  that you have on your system. Some interfere with browsers and downloads.

Good luck

Question to Moderator:

I have posted my steampunk clock stuff here on this post as it seemed appropriate as it does provide a significant steampunk look/feel to any desktop. I am aware though that I have inadvertently hijacked this post and it might be sensible to open another post to deal with this add-on separately, do you want me to do this? Your advice please.

The Steampunk Clock/Calendar has just turned version 0.16 and everything now works. This is release candidate 1 which means that any bugs you find will be fixed and the resulting code will then become the live and fully fledged Mk1. Please feel free to download and test and report back any bugs.

You can download it here:
http://lightquick.co.uk/downloads/steampunk-clock-calendar-yahoo-widget.htm

As soon as it gets uploaded to Yahoo I will post the Yahoo widget link here too.

Stick it on your desktop and see if it gives you the steampunk look you are looking for.

If anyone can let me know how it works on Macs then I'd be interested to know.

If you downloaded 0.16 then download 0.16.1, a minor bugfix that restores the quarterly chimes...
