The widgets have nothing to do with Yahoo, the widget engine was originally known as Konfabulator. Yahoo picked up the Konfabulator engine and just as quickly dropped it. It has very little to do with Yahoo now, though of course it still works. The widget files can be decompressed and the sounds extracted. The widget files are just zipped up.

An imagined steampunk desktop. This uses a new image created by my alter-self Orlok, the image is the Torpedo Ram Thunderchild from HG Wells' marvellous book "War of the Worlds" plus a few typical desktop items to create a theme of sorts.

the full size image is here:

http://lightquick.co.uk/images/stories/steampunk-desk.jpg

Download it here: http://rocketdock.com/addon/walls/43188

The protaganist's desktop is covered with items that indicate that he is about to flee. The necessary money is to hand and reports of the Martians indicate that their technology is superior - and that they are winning the War.

The Thunderchild image is taken from a forthcoming CGI rendered video that will be ready to display soon. Imagine, if you will, the scene zooming in upon the photograph and the thunderchild coming to life in the photo frame. Zooming further in we are transported into the actual battle itself.

You can see a quick 'n dirty render here:

War of the Worlds 3D Flythough WiP

There will be some updates on the same channel - so keep an eye out.

Newer version of the steampunk thunderchild desktop here in 1920 x 1200 pixel format for those with bigger screens, just added more space all around:

This is just a wallpaper at the moment but all of these items will be available as widgets so you can have the desktop as your own and simply move the items around at will...

download it here: http://rocketdock.com/addon/walls/43229

an image of the Large Hadron Collider.

not obviously steam punk, but its the most extraordinary gadget ever built by humans.  capable of tearing a hole in spacetime.

The LHC certainly fits the scale of a lot of Victorian engineering projects…

You might like this as a desktop... 1920px x 1080px, pictured below is a much smaller version.

Get the full size version here:
http://rocketdock.com/addon/walls/43429

This was our version of the imaginary Victorian Torpedo Ram as used in our short animation. This has been rendered in high quality as a nice desktop wallpaper.

Something else for the desktop.

http://rocketdock.com/addon/icons/43268

The widget clock was just an icon but is now a moveable widget that you can move anywhere around the desktop as you require. It tells the time just as you would expect it to do so. Compact and lovely.

If you download and find yourself liking it then please login at Rocketdock and vote! Give it from 1-5 stars, all votes count (by the way our Steampunk icons are currently all over page one on Rocketdock due to kind people voting - thankyou!).

Halo friends
I am a new one here, and I need to share my desktop. I just finished customization of my desktop to steampunk style, using yereverluvinunclebert's steampunk icons and widgets http://lightquick.co.uk/guide-to-skinning-windows-in-a-steampunk-fashion.html?Itemid=252. I'm more than satisfied by the look of it. And widgets works perfectly.

Here is my desktop screenshot:

I would like to customize my windows7 too, windows frames, start meny, task bar, everything... but from some reason this is not possible. I tried using theme manager, but in vain.

I hope you would like my design. I have more widgets, but in this moment only two of them was active.

Milogor, it costs money, but try Windowblinds.  I have a steampunk theme made for it already, but my trial ran out, as well as my cash Sad  I'm using RocketDock and FileTypeManager to set my icons (such as the one you see on every .txt file).  I've also grabbed the Library icons on DeviantArt.  The Volume, typewriter and bug, and the right monitor's clock are Rainmeter.  The left monitor's clock is uncle bert's widget Smiley  Desktop Coral (he misspelled Corral) is the bit at the bottom, which allows me to have Rocketdock not on top of everything all the time.

Here's the link if you want to see it bigger:  http://imageshack.us/a/img35/3604/desktopma.jpg

Thank you Ktara.
I already have installed Windowsblinds (on the Google page screenshot you can see steampunk task bar skinned using Windowsblinds). And I like your desktop too. It is little bit different (more discreet) than my. I need to calm down my own, sometimes it is hard to watch to the screen :-D

@butfortherain - That phone shot is really rather good. More screenshots of peoples phones would be good. How did you take the screenshot?

@Ktara - it is nice to have a desktop that looks like a desk top.

The phone has a feature to take screenshots at any time using gestures or a stylus, so it's quite easy.
