Vampires weren't a worry in them early days. They came later, when the towns were tamed and civilized.

Skin-walkers were the great threat then. The witches, sometimes driven from the land of the Navajo, were dangerous beasts that could devour a troop of men in a single night under the Comanche Moon. The skin-walkers were of those few that were feared by even the fierce Buffalo Hump.

In fact, *puff*, on the plains during one of our early battles with the chief we were set on by no less than 3 skin-walkers. To our delight and dismay the great chief and his bucks fought alongside us that horrific night.

I recollect that we, all of us rangers, could not imagine that there could be worse horrors than those of Buffalo Hump and his war party. If anything was learned while we struggled to survive, let alone tame, that wild Trans Pecos it was that no matter the horrors you'd suffered and seen, always there was worse.

To be forced without chance of argument to do battle alongside this monster of a man who'd scalped good men of ours not a fortnight before was less terrifying an enterprise than to face those witch-people.

Oh, peaches. Used to grow them you know.... drated peach leaf curl used to get at it though, had to spray it with copper sulphate..
