(This is mearly a presona personal views are welcome but please understand my char is fictonal and should not be taken to an extreme.)
My name is Archibal loughlin. My father and mother died during a pleauge that ripped through scotland in the year 1845. My father was a good god fearing man, I was raised in the church all me life maybe thats why I am what I am today. See I am a god fearing man just like me father but my faith is pushed by the blood of those who seek to bring an end to this world. I hunt the souls of those that have strayed from the flock and they will meet there end with me. I am the servent that will bring this world back into grace one bad man at a time.
And Shepherds we shall be For thee, my Lord, for thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand Our feet may swiftly carry out Thy commands. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomeni Patri Et Fili Spiritus Sancti."

... and the name matches the meter of "Eleanor Rigby," leading to endless amusement amongst the congregation.

After she does a shot with my protagonists. (They need something stronger than tea...they have stressful lives.) They'll have plenty to talk about before the crazy gun-toting preacher shows up.

Using the term "preacher" implies some form of independent Protestant. In Scotland, the biggest group was/is with the Church of Scotland-- which pulled away from Roman Catholicism in the late 1500s. It was heavily influenced by a dour Calvinism, and adopted a presbyterian structure.
Other history: that business about Queen Mary being Catholic-- not too welcome by the fiercely Protestant Scots. Scots were also imported to Northern Ireland by the English to dilute the Catholic population. With some nasty results. Plus exported in droves to the American colonies, where they became backwoods people still famous for their self-reliance and religious rigidity.
Main point I'm trying to make is that a Scottish preacher would be quite unlikely to use Latin, since that's a Catholic thing. And it's also unlikely that he would have had much of an education. The working class (an overwhelming majority of the population, 85+%) usually went to work as young teens. Which rules out any study of the classics or of science by which he might have learned some Latin. He would be fortunate to have any more than a couple of years of schooling.
Of course, in an alternate world, anything goes. But probably needs some sort of consistancy. Anyway, may inspirations of the muses Calliope, Clio, Thalia, and Erato be with you.
