Haven't been to the West Coast since 1980 but did think that steaming a pair of roller skates or skateboard would be a fun challege. I bet Venice beach area has changed a bit in 30 years...or maybe not.

aside from the influx of potheads(that lovely medical marijuana facility draws them),bums(becoming ravenous),and the ghetto folk the people are generally the same
The Ferris wheel has been replaced
The pier........stands strong
Aside from technically being of the former
my main reason to go their is parkour, not many people enjoy philosophical conversations or my brass goggles down yonder

You should join the Southern California steampunk events mailing list at http://www.socalsteam.com Lots of things happening all over, many of them all ages. If you ever make it down to San Diego, come check out our club, Chrononaut http://chrononautclub.com or our big Comic Con wrap up show with Abney Park in July http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/163647
See you around sometime!
