So, if we're going to do this again, now is the time to act. Once Mephit says we're on, this show will be on he road.
I've personally got a photographer and 4 models (myself included) ready to go for this. Granted, 2 or them are twins, and they'll be wanting to share a photo for November. From the 2011 thread, we've got Darkshines requesting May, and Miss Tabitha being Flexible.
That leaves 9 slots avaialbale, as we use a 14 month calendar.
As a model, you will need to sign a waiver allowing us to use your photo, and you will be responsible for getting your photographers signature as well.
Based on the massive interest and less than stellar follow through for the 2010 calendar, we'll have a pool of alternates. So, if you aren't the the quickest to post here, do not fear.
I'll let Mephit detail the specific quality requirements for photographs. The gist of it, from what I can recall, is that photos need to be from a professional level camera, or very near to it, and need to be submitted in color.
So, start volunteering, if you're interested!

**We're still taking photo submissions! Get involved!**So, after some discussion based on the experience gained from the last production, we've decided that we're going to keep the call for submissions open and to not choose participants solely on who is able to post first. We're looking to create the highest quality product possible! So, that being said, if you wish to be considered for the 2012 calander, you will need to submit your photo and the completed model/photographer waiver to me. How to do so will be updated here, once we have our waiver updated. We will choose photos based on quality of photo, steampunkiness, and other as-yet-to-be-decided factors, but I want each of you to rest assured that we're not going to be choosing these photos by the standard "calander people" factors. This isn't the time to be shy or self-judgemental! Requirements for Photo Submissions-JPEG or TIFF -minimum of 4 megapixels -photo must be in full color -Model must be at least 18 years of age -waiver must be submitted with photo and must be signed by both the model and the photographer Please send submissions and waivers to: BG.steampunk.pinup@gmail.comHappy Modeling! -Abi and Mephit-

Im curious about this, are the calendars sold to support the site? or is it just for fun? I'm interested, but I'd like to know a bit more before I make any decisions.

They are sold for exactly how much they cost to make. We discussed using them to support the site back in 2009, and while I cannot bring to mind the details, I remember that the logistics of such an endeavor were complicated enough to make us avoid that route. That, and the dear Sgt.Major had very recently donated a year or two's worth of funds to keep the lights on here, so fundraising wasn't a pressing issue at the time.

I would want to be a model, but do I have to have a professional photographer? I only have myself and my man as possible photographers.

I -could- give it a shot, have a photographer friend lined up to do my 'author' photograph and as she likes SteamPunky stuff I could persuade her to take a 'pin-up' type photograph of me for a calender - see what I can arrange

Not usually one for calenders... But I do believe it would make the PERFECT Christmas gift for my vocalist. He's not really all that into steampunk, but he is quite smitten with some of the ladies on this site!
What can I say, the man's got taste!

Houston, we are a go for primary ignition.
I'll be happy to design the 2012 calendar. I'm also happy to print it at the company for which I work, or I can provide art to another company if we'd prefer to use someone else this time around. Two years ago, the cost was $10 per calendar plus shipping. I'll have to get with my boss to see what the price would be this year. Paper costs have been going through the roof the last few years, so I don't know if the price will have to go up a little or not.
The photo submission guidelines from last time still hold and are as follows.
JPEG or TIFF, at least 4 megapixel, full color*.
*When I was setting up the last one, sepia-toned photos got lost on the aged paper background and didn't really stand out. Color photos grabbed the eye much better, hence the requirement.

Please forgive my ignorance but is this calender an all female photo essay? Should I be encouraged as a gentleman to offer a tasty tasteful image of humble self as well? Should there be a similar calender for the ladies as well?
Gentlemen: I invite your replies as well.

My lovely co-conspirator and I are fully amenable to the equitable treatment of the sexes with regards to the content of our little production. The original intention previously was to have a double-sided calendar with one side all women and the other side all men, but we didn't get enough submissions so we just interleaved the male and female subjects throughout the content of the work. If we get enough submissions, I'm happy to set up a double-sided calendar as we originally intended though it will be a bit more expensive to produce due to the higher number of pages. Or we can simply stick to the previous successful design. I'm happy to work with either idea.

You do not need to hire a professional photographer. I think almost all the photos in the previous calendar were amateur ones. This is entirely a volunteer effort. I'm only charging what my boss charges me to print the calendars and what the post office requires to mail them. We don't pay any of the models, nor are Abi and I being paid for the model-wrangling or design work. It's our labour of love and a shot at international fame for those beautiful folks who's photos get placed in the calendar. Last time, I sold copies to folks in Canada, the United States, Britain, Ireland, The Netherlands, and a few others I can't recall off the top of my head.

I would be very interested in submitting a photo, haven't done anything like this before but I believe it'll be loads of fun! I'm hoping the deadline will be a few months so I have time to finish my outfit. Do you have any idea when the deadling would be? Thank you.

The deadline is still undecided, but I imagine it will be sometime in September to give us time for editing and printing prior to the holidays.
And the waiver is a release allowing us to use the photo in the calander, so that we're covered on the legal side of things.

I do a bit for Apocalypse Girls, so I know a few photographers who might be willing to help you guys out if you want me to ask on the site. Most of them, I'm pretty sure, would be happy to do it for free/for the sake of their portfolios.
