Greetings, ladies and gentlemen.
I know that tea stands as the steampunk's staple hot drink, but could coffee be considered steamy aswell? I have tried tea several times and have never found it to my liking, however I am a most definite coffee addict.
What say you, fellow steampunks?

Depending on how well you can spin a tale, almost anything up to and including Skittles (strike that, just noticed you are an Englander -- think Smarties instead) can be "considered steampunk." Almost nothing short of a Martian Tripod war machine is intrinsically Steeampunk. For what it's worth, a balancing siphon coffee maker is impressively brass and complex.
Drink what you like, and d*mn the nay-sayers!

I like to think to myself, a man needs coffee like a gigantic steam-bot needs coal. It's what I tell myself so I can sleep at night. Except I don't. Since, coffee.

I would say it depends on how it is made. If you get yourself a nice brass percolator, throw some gauges into the mix and a showy way of steam release, then yes. You have made steampunk coffee.

Short answer: Yes, absolutely. It's just down to which beverage you prefer, if either. 'Coffee' has been made by grinding beans & straining boiling water through them for centuries. You can make all sorts of different types of coffee through use of different shot lengths, how much water you use, how much steamed or frothy milk you wish to use and whether there are any extra's to throw in, but on the whole the principle remains the same.
However, and wholly on a personal level, I prefer hot chocolate. Not, as far as I am aware, exactly SteamPunk but I can't abide coffee and tea is...not exactly my favourite.

But of course. Assuming that steampunk is roughly set in Belle Epoque or Victorian era, coffee can fit there nicely. It was very popular in Italy, Austro-Hungarian Empire and, of course, Ottoman Empire (where it have been a staple drink for several centuries). It also was rather popular in France and Russian Empire.
As it reqiured a refined taste and was hardly mainstream drink, it was more popular among people looking for exotic drinks, artists, and middle-class intellectuals. As far as I know, in XIX-century it was considered more a "long drink" (of a non-alcoholic variety) than a staple drink used to ward off fatigue.
And, as Clockwork Bee aptly pointed out, there is hardly a single house appliance more steampunkish than a coffee machine. Well, maybe with an exception of nice coal samovar.
Regards

Coffee in a mass produced disposable cardboard cup isn't steampunk.
Coffee in a splendid china cup, a big hefty industrial mug or a old fashion thermos could be steampunk, especially if it's being drunk by a steampunk.

That depends somewhat on your definition of "steampunk". I like to think of it as "the future as imagined by the Victorians". In which case, Coffee is a definite part of that: coffee shops were a staple of Victorian England, and even more popular in Europe around the same time -- it's where very much "real business" took place. Here is some interesting reading on the topicAnd, as evidence for Coffee's Steampunk cred: (From Girl Genius)

Although I am a tea drinker and only rarely touch coffee. I would have thought that coffee would fit in especially the more elaborate kinds. The instant coffee's not so sure of.

Instant coffee is evil. Granted, it's occasionally a necessary evil, but...

The only use I've ever found for instant coffee is in baking, when you want a coffee flavor with no aqueous component, such as chocolates and frostings.

It's just coffee. It doesn't matter wether you're a steampunk or a transvestite bank manager, it's just a hot drink like any other. Drinking it out of a copper boiler won't make it or you any more steampunk, because it's just a drink.
