So, where's the hype for Con? I read there was a room last time and lots of folks got turned away cuz the room for an ad hoc meet up was too small. We should be planning NOW to avoid such a tragedy!. I have been going to ComicCon since it's beginning and since this year I'm going Steampunk I want in on all the fun, group photos, drinks, camaraderie, hijinks, discussions and all that goodness lol! Let's get moving people! I have a direct line to the Con organizers so I might be able to help with some info on a room.

I posted this once already but mistakenly put it in the child boards.

We need some solidarity people!! Too many splinter groups.

I've posted LOTS of info on SDCC 2011 over on the North American board
http://brassgoggles.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,30852.0.html

I've not found that San Diego or Southern California suffers from "splinter groups". We are a pretty nice community that strives to support each other and our events. If you want to find more people in SD, you can always check out http://www.sandiegosteampunk.org for links, Machina Fatalis http://machinafatalis.blogspot.com/ for info on SDCC events (upcoming), or come out to Chrononaut to meet & greet our local scene http://www.chrononautclub.com/

Hope we get to meetup soon. See you at Comic Con!

Alas, as usual, I went to get tickets and they were all sold out.  Been trying to go for five years in a row and the same always happens, either too early and tickets aren't available, some secret e-mail went out and I didn't get it, and/or I missed the sale day and they were all sold out.

One day.

The Steampunk Panel is from 10am to 11am on Saturday in rooms 23a, b, c. Capacity 405.

We have 6 panelists. They are, Greg Broadmore (WETA & Dr. Grordbort's), Phil & Kaja Foglio (Girl Genius), Lon Muckey (co-producer of Mantecoza and FX specialist), Arron Ginn-Forsberg (co-producer and lead male actor, Mantecoza) and Thomas Willeford of Brute Force Leather (his gadgets were featured in the TV series "Castle" with Nathan Fillion) Our panelists will be discussing the appeal of the Steampunk esthetic and reasons for its increasing popularity in media, arts and entertainment industry...and, of course, in fandom. The areas represented will be literature and graphic novels, costuming, props, prosthetics, internet and film.
