I'm telling you
there's an entire network here on US tv
dedicated to remodeling, etc -

you could have your own show!

I'm coming back to this thread first every day
to see if there's a new installment...

HGTV?

I'm watching "My yard goes Disney" as we speak.
I'm loving it.

I've started (probably prematurely) painting the toilet area.

I think it is HGTV or something like that.

I don't have a television setup.
I just have a very old tv and a dvd player.
BUT -
I am positive that were you to send them pics
and a link to this site or something -
they'd send someone out
to do at least a 'spot' on what you've done!

Who knows?
could be the bucks needed to get that incredible shower setup?

Call it 'Punk My Bathroom" or "Punk To My Loo" ...  Grin

Re: cleaning-
I owned and ran a house cleaning service
when I lived on the east coast.
Clients with tons of fiddly bits in their baths
were our bread and butter.
Swiffer will take care of the dust on the rivets
as long as there's no active shower in the room.

The steam of showers
is what adheres the dust to walls
and baseboards
and turns it into the immovable cement
that's so hard to get off.

Consider also the relative humidity
of where you are.
Just set a schedule and stick to it.
Is really the key to cleaning.
I think a good acrylic overcoat
(matte or shine, whichever you decide)
will make little more
than a damp ragging three times per year
necessary to keep it in top cleanliness.
Swiffer is a great friend to all pro cleaners.

Just a post- pro opinion.
(with a touch of encouragement and hope on top)

Photos are just not doing this paint justice.  I'd like to say it was from my skill as an artist, however it's not... IT'S THE PAINT.

It is just fantastic.  Here is a few shots of the toilet 24 hours after the initial application.  The "grunge" look is really showing through.

It still looks very dark.  It must be the way my camera picks up the light.

There are preset options.  However these seem to be the best.  It'd either too dark, washed out or the colour is just off.

Torkbox had suggested I do a little detail on the faux paint.

I really wish I had detail to give.  I've been cheating (my secret is out).  In actual fact it isn't truly a faux paint as such (it is classed as such, however the effect is real not emulated to look real).  I have come across these products in small quantities in hobby shops but wasn't aware until the bathroom job, you could get them as product for interior/exterior house painting.  These products aren't new but modern technology has vastly improved these paints over the years.

The paint itself is an acrylic paint with actual powdered metals mixed in.  It's application, when painting a wall, is in the same manner as any other acrylic paint is applied.  The less brush strokes the better as they do still show.  I have found painting with a brush to be easiest though as the paint itself doesn't spread well with a roller.

After a base coat of the "real iron" (or copper)  paint is left to dry a second coat is applied, while this is still tacky (but not wet) the acid is sprayed on.

The acid has the same viscosity as water so it runs down the wall.  Now for the acid to do it's job it has to pool a little, to get the acid to pool a little is to use a paint brush to slow down the drips.  The brush strokes start at the point the acid is sprayed on the wall and dragged down.

This still gives it the impression that the water that has caused the rust is running down.
It is also very important that all the crevices are done well.  These would be the areas that rust would most likely form first.

Aside from that there is very little else to say, once again I have to reiterate most of the effect is due to the paint, not my skill as a painter.

Absolutely wonderful bathroom, I am in awe.

Please keep up the good work! I'm looking forward to seeing the floor finished, those tiles look perfect for the job.

That acid wash paint is fantastic, as is the overall design and execution.

And I still haven't gotten over your floor tiles.  I saw them and could only giggle like a baby in the presence of living awesome.

Well done Joeyana.  If I tip my hat any farther it'll fall off me head.

Thanks spaceclown... As u too am in awe of your Gauntlet Glove and it's construction, it's cool to get feedback like that from guys lime you.

Now I know I've been a little quiet lately, unfortunately the project has come to a standstill.  I'm still waiting for the guy who's going to lay the tiles (since he's doing it for nothing I'll do it on his terms). Also everything else is just about at that stage where it's either finished or going to cost big, so I'm in the saving stage at the moment and should be good to get going in about a month or so.  So please keep your eyes out for the next installment.

Once again cheers to all the fantastic feedback, it's one of the things that keeps me going.

Well, one can't really argue with that.  I'm surprised you aren't giving laying the tiles yourself a go.  You've proved through this thread that you're more than capable of that job, but on the other hand  I can totally see where you're coming from.  I've witnessed the results of a botched tiling job...my therapist says that's why I have trouble sleeping and why I sometimes cry in kitchens for no reason.
