So, where's the hype for Con? I read there was a room last time and lots of folks got turned away cuz the room for an ad hoc meet up was too small. We should be planning NOW to avoid such a tragedy!. Also, how many folks here go to Chrononaut? I have been going to ComicCon since it's beginning and since this year I'm going Steampunk I want in on all the fun, group photos, drinks, camaraderie, hijinks, discussions and all that goodness lol! Let's get moving people!

Last years gathering was good, it was outside so that everyone could fit!  I don't know who is organizing for this year. I am wearing my Cthulhu Proselytizer, my newest steampunk costume.  I hope there is going to be some sort of meet up as there has been in the past.  When ever it is I will be there or try to be. Sorry for the lack of SDCC hype. Wink We've been busy making plans for maximum steampunk awesomeness.

Firstly, there will be an actual *gasp* panel organized by steampunks about steampunk! I don't have the actual title yet, but it'll be something like Steampunk in Media. It's on Saturday, July 23, 10 am - 11 am Room 23ABC Guests will include Phil Foglio, Lon Muckey of Mantecoza, Greg Broadmore & more. FB invite here http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=221966507828466 but not much info yet

Secondly, there will also be a meetup & photo shoot at 1 pm that day on the stairs outside the mezzanine (where the fan tables are, look for the stormtroopers!) along with this year's Starburner Awards http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=134544416620005

And last but not least, that night will feature a Steampunk SDCC wrap up party with Abney Park and Unextraordinary Gentlemen & more. The show is ALL AGES Cheesy but will also have beer & wine. http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=210847495621189&ref=ts

I am also working on this year's Steampunk at San Diego Comic Con list which will highlight exhibitors, special features, panels & meetups, and offsite events. It's a lot of work, so don't expect it immediately. It will be found at http://machinafatalis.blogspot.com/ when ready.

Hopefully this year's schedule will be as exciting as 2010's. See you at Comic Con!

As for Chrononaut...
July's Chrononaut will be a little different, with a trip "abroad" to another venue. We're off to Ocean Beach and Electric Ladyland Studio for fun and frivolity. Check our website for details and a map http://chrononautclub.com/
See you there!

The Steampunk Meet-up and Starburner Awards will be held at 1pm on Saturday at the same place we held it last year. (It's the only place outside that provides a little shade.) The schedule will allow two hours between the panel and the meet-up so people can refuel.

The Steampunk Panel is from 10am to 11am on Saturday in rooms 23a, b, c. Capacity 405.

We have 6 panelists. They are, Greg Broadmore (WETA & Dr. Grordbort's), Phil & Kaja Foglio (Girl Genius), Lon Muckey (co-producer of Mantecoza and FX specialist), Arron Ginn-Forsberg (co-producer and lead male actor, Mantecoza) and Thomas Willeford of Brute Force Leather (his gadgets were featured in the TV series "Castle" with Nathan Fillion) Our panelists will be discussing the appeal of the Steampunk esthetic and reasons for its increasing popularity in media, arts and entertainment industry...and, of course, in fandom. The areas represented will be literature and graphic novels, costuming, props, prosthetics, internet and film.

I'm so stoked. I'll be going Steampunk-lite this year though. My car was stolen a few months ago (got it back but not that which follows) along with my hat, vest, and most importantly pocketwatches but I'll muster something up that will still trump those who would repaint Mavericks=P lol
