The other gun is nice too, but the lever-action is in a league all of its own..

Thanks! I basically only enjoy the build itself and he only times I have shot them were to prove to spudfiles members they actually work. The noise turns me off as I don't want to bother my neighbours. Hate basically any noise. Never had the interest of joining a club or whatever. I build them, test them, then I disassemble them or, if they turn out well enough they are allowed to gather dust tucked away far away from my kids. It's the technical part combined with art that interests me. That is why they end up looking like that. The fact they make a hole in a piece of board just verifies I was right with the design. I'm a very peaceful man don't worry.. Well..I'm done hijacking this thread! Hope you enjoyed it. you guys got some cool stuff on this forum. You'll hear from me again once I finally start my steamengine project.

Picked this up the other day as the base for my next ray rifle. It is a WW2 rifle stock of some sort - as far as I know. I have plans to build a JBG (Jolly Big Gun).

Looks like a M1917 Enfield stock that has been "sporterized" including remaking the grip area, good choice for a build... if you find one that is still full military though it might be worth more to a collector.....

Correct on all counts sir, I feel safe using this stock as it is already modified from the original.

Just in case anyone is interested Toys"R"US in the UK have loads of NERF BreakBarrel's in at £14.99, which is a good £6.00 cheaper than normal. They at least look decent painted without any additional Modifications.

I know its a nerf gun, and Im sorry. I don't think you need to apologise for what is a very fine hand gun whatever the base model is, surely the whole principle of steampunk is the creativity?

Not very original, but I call it The Gentleman Remember. everything here started off as only a something. It's not what it started out as that matters it's what you do with it that counts. The dial and sight are nice touches, although to be fussy, for the sight to be usefull the Gentleman may need some form of folable or attachable shoulder stock. Trying to use the sight whilst waggling the gun in one hand may be a tad tricky P.S. I just though "What does that dial control as it's a revolver?" Maybe you could encase the drum in cardboard/plasticard so that it looks more like a fuel tank. Mock up a couple of spare tanks for quick recharge and rig up a holster and ammo belt Quite so; nice work, Mr.(?) Eclipse. I confess I'm fascinated by the concept of a weapon with a "Reverse" setting...
I suppose it depends upon the effect of the weapon. Something that incapacitates people or objects may indeed require the ability to reverse the effects. Something that obliterates them may find this a bit harder to achieve.

Something that obliterates them may find this a bit harder to achieve. As for the reverse, that is laziness for not making a new dial to cover the original, or perhaps a little too much excitement to show off what I got before Im really 100% finished . Since I posted these pics I have decided that I want to take the stock from my Nerf Recon and set it up to attach to the maverick with a steam cylinder between the wire frame. To address the need for a dial, I have some left over CO2 cartridge adapters that I think I'll mount to the front for power when not attached to the larger power supply on the butt stock.

A reverse on a revolver makes sense to me, you could have different rounds loaded and then be able to 'steer' to the round you wish to use.
And I like a sight on a handgun, it makes it more sinister looking.

If there was a jam in a Gatling gun the method of clearing it was to reverse the turn of the handle, thus reverse in a revolver (automatically loaded via a hopper or clip of some sort) could theoretically serve a very important function. Attach some sort of automatic loading device and it becomes very convincing. Maduncle's idea also has some weight. A few props such as shells with different markings would suffice to sell the illusion.

All very good ideas gents, I appreciate the feedback. I especially like the different cartridges idea, which could make for a nice visual which could be enhanced further by an accompanying cartridge belt. Now I'm brainstorming types of rounds to load the Gentleman with, but the trick is that I want to give them Gentlemanly names. Here is what I have so far:
Demency: Magnum slug Cogitation : Less lethal round Langrange: Shot Punctilio: Higher grade slug for accuracy
I'll rig up a replacement dial face with reverse (for the reasons mentioned above) along with the round types, along with half and full steam. Now to figure out an auto loading mechanism (also a grand idea). Seeing as how spring break is officially started I seem to have a project for the next week
