Brilliant work there elvisroe -

VERY nice.....

Love the goggles too... ( How did you light them? Can you still see through them
when they are not lit ( or even when they are... that would make them even more
impressive   Grin   ) )

Finally finished my first major scratch-build!!!

My objective was to build something that I coulld mount on the wall that at first glance would appear to be a genuine antique rifle... but prove to be something else on closer inspection.

I started with an old fishing reel from the mechanism - pimped it out with brass and copper then built the body to suit.

The classic Spencer Carbine was my inspiration for the shape.  I was particularly happy with the way the trigger gaurd and "recoilless stock" (patent pending) came up.

I agonised over the barrel and eventually settled on steel tube capped with copper.  I was about to paint it black when I suddenly thought "why don't I blue it?"

A quick google pointed me to selenium oxide and a local gunshop hooked me up with a bottle.  I totally reccomend the cold bluing process for propmaking! The results are better than I imagined they would be!

I've since gone a little silly and blued a belt buckle, machette and 2 carbon steel knives...  Roll Eyes

Wow, I love that. You're right, the stock is particularly good.

Here is my own effort:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The barrel can be unscrewed and stowed ram-rod style on the side of the gun to convert it into a carbine (you all know how tricky it can be to wield a full-blown sniper rifle when you've been swallowed by a sky kraken).

Obviously it doesn't fire, but it does contain a custom made brass clockwork mechanism (that is obviously not a spray-painted toy gun mechanism) which generates sparks when the trigger is pulled.

Nice one as_solo_says (I was about to use initials rather than your full handle and realised that could be misconstrued!) it's great to see a few more long-arms!

A lovely exhibit from mr Gladstone too - might I be so indelicate as to enquire after the origin of the stock and body of you're Gatling?

I used an old hand drill for the base of it - and by virtue of a reed switch in the circuit, it flashes as you crank the handle.

I neglect to check the forum for a few weeks, and look at the cool stuff I miss!

Final touches to the flintlock ray gun.

This is absolutely gorgeous, well done sir!  Then again, your work is always top notch, so no surprise there.  It looks like it has a nice heft to it as well, which is always good.  Have you given any thought to perhaps replacing the hammer?

I must say sir, you have certainly achieved your objective.  I can imagine someone walking up to that weapon and saying, "My, what an interesting rifle... wait a second..."  A beautifully deadly looking piece, in front of which I would not want to be standing.

I really like this one, and I look forward to its completion.  Is that an automobile klaxon on the side there?  I always thought they had an interesting look.  Whatever it is, it looks right at home on that weapon.  Perhaps a picture of the other side?

So many talented people making so much amazing stuff!

Hi guys,

I found this forum by accident just a couple of minutes ago and I would like to share some pictures of my homemade bigbore airguns.
All of them are fully functional and more powerful than most commercial airguns.

The first has the muzzle energy to bring down deer. ( I hate hunting but now you get the idea)

some vids of them actually working:
Short shooting vid

BTB's leveraction airgun flipcocking.wmv

BTBoltvid 0001

My peers on the spudfiles forum have called them "pretty steampunk" so I wonder what you guys think of them.
They were not intended to look "steampunk"
It's just my style I guess.

The early airguns I made about 6 years ago actually looked more steampunk as they consisted of pipes and fittings and some random stuff, but oh well..

Nice work, not sure if this is outside the remit of 'working firearms post 1914', but beautiful craftsmanship is always appreciated!

Oh, and welcome to the forum! Is the username taken from Space:1999 by any chance?

That first one is beautiful. It's got quite a few similarities with the old girandoni air rifle. May I ask if you used that for inspiration?

Do you have any in-progress pics of that lever-action gun? It's absolutely brlliant!

And Herr Döktor; technically they're not firearms, right? Wink

Well, in most countries including my own, airguns are not considered firearms in any way.
Remember, if it works on compressed air it will most likely run on steam too.. Wink

I could actually have made hem work back in the 1800's
My nickname has been my online nickname for many years.
Dutch people always write "Brain"when they want to write my ( actual) name.
it used to bug me but I decided to go with it.
can't beat them , join 'em...sorta like that.

I had never heard of the expression steampunk untill folks at the spudgun forum pointed it out to me after I had finished the flintlock-yet-boltaction rifle with copper details.
you can clearly see by the vids I posted they are meant to show off the guns functions.

I got into airgun building after reading about the Girandoni rifles from the 1790's i.i.r.c.
Actual historic military airrifles, made to resemble the flintlock blackpowder rifles of the day.
They actually performed better and shot 22 shots in a row from a single fill.

I forgot to mention I made every single part of the lever action and flintlock builds from scrath or raw materials.
The fully automatic one in the second picture I just added because of the external tubing.

I'd part with it for less than you'd think.
Front brace has been taken off for use in another project and the mechanism needs lubing as it hasn't been fired in a couple of years.
Just collecting dust
Make me an offer.. Grin

Here's the link to my youtube channel:

Did a lot of projects so enjoy if you're interested.
Recently I've built a foundry so I can melt and pour brass and aluminium so projects will improve a lot once i get the hang of mold-making.. Embarrassed

That goes for the rifle...the lever action is indeed another story.
I apologise for double posting.
