Behold! Morrius Industries presents the Drake D-42 Compact Sidearm. Using patented quad-rail technology, this beautifully scultped handgun fires bolts of accelerated, superheated, ionised gas capable of penetrating most personal armours. When you need that extra kick, simply retract the charge chamber and load one of our unique Fireball rounds. These large caliber cylinders are made of a steel core with magnesium coating. Accelerated by the same systems as the ordinary plasma, the round ignites on firing resulting in a high velocity steel shot surrounded by its own inferno of plasma before striking your target in a frenetic orgy of thermokinetic doom!

Morrius Industries is not responsible for the use of it's products, in particular airship injuries resulting from the firing of high energy plasma weaponry in a hydrogen rich environment.

So yeah, that's my first steampunk gun. Doesn't actually look as good as in the photo, my attempts to paint a wooden handle didn't really work out so well. May neaten up a few bits at some point, but for now I'm happy with it.

No piece of this full scale six shooter originated from an actual gun real or toy. The revolving cylinder was an open face casting reel. The barrel came of an small brass cannon and the grips are layered latigo (leather).

Thank you for your time,

Sweet!!  I was just looking at a trawling reel the other day and thinking how nicely it could work for a SP gun - nice to see it done so well!

So I wandered into my local fishing store yesterday and asked if they had any broken reels.  They gave me 2 for nothing!  It's always worth asking the question!!

OK so one's fluro pink but I've already sanded it back to the dull grey underneath and think it has great potential - thanks for the further inspiration!

Hello,

I am not sure if this is the correct place for introductions but here goes.
My name is Dusty. I am fairly new to the Steampunk world having only been introduced to it for the first time this Oct. at the Texas Renaissance festival.
I was immediately hooked. I am a whip maker here in Texas and I can truly appreciate anything handmade.

I would like to compliment you all on the creativity and the craftsmanship of your works. I too have made a few Steampunk items and I would like to share some pictures of my first project.

Actually, I think that this turned out very well for your first Steampunk paint-up!! The faux-wood paint job  was done well enough to know that it looks like wood. Remember that wood has natural imperfections in it.

I didn't actually have any brown paint so I used a mix of copper with a little bit of terracotta. Smiley It's oay but it looks better on camera than real life. Also It needs another coat and some varnish, one day of use and its already wearing off around the barrel and the trigger. And it scrapes of the pull bit really easily.

Hmmmm...

Did you happen to give it a generous cleaning of alcohol and a bit of a sanding before you painted it? I often do that with plastic parts that I am painting or gluing to create more of a accepting surface for paint and other treatments. It does seem to keep the chipping, scratching and peeling to a minimum.

Give it a go, if you have not done so already!

Nope, didn't know about the alcohol, didn't have any sandpaper. Hmm, I'll remember that for next time.

a good scrub in warm water and washing up liquid would be better than nothing - the traces of plastic moulding release agent as well as grease from hands all inhibit the stickiness of paint to surfaces.

I suppose that is why paint never sticks to me very well.  Grin

Currently just in the design phase. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated (specifically on how to give it a more steampunk feel without adding parts that don't serve a logical purpose).
Once the design is finalized I will begin building the real thing. It will use a lever action to slide the barrel off of/ onto the round and rotate the revolver drum. I will beusing inert .50 caliber round and it will have a total length of about 26.6"

Thank you for the suggestion. I quickly made a flared muzzle and added venting slots to keep the front down.

Cool design Nathaniel,

I'll be looking forward to seeing that one finished.

I just finised up a swiveling holster for my six shooter and a holster for my cell phone since unfortunately you can't leave the house with out it anymore.  Cheesy

Beautiful six-gun and holster there.  Been itching to work on one myself.  I especially like the leather grip on the six gun.

Finally, after long months of no camera and really crappy webcam shots, I've set up an el cheapo tabletop studio and built a wooden rest for the webcam, so I can put it on the tripod and I don't have to hold it in my hand.

Here's my raygun from 3 years ago, in a much better series of shots:

I haven't taken studio shots in over 20 years, so I'm a bit rusty, but I like 'em anyway.

(I know, the stand is a travesty)

Yes.

I was speaking of the cell phone but you know I do live in Texas. HA HA HA!

Thanks to everyone for the compliments.
I finished my gun bell the other night and I'll post some pic's as soon as I get a chance to take them.

MWBailey-

That ray gun looks great. I really like the sliding bolt on the top of the barrel. Very nice.
