Thanks. Having Googled that and seen the original colors of that thing, I'm upgrading you from "nice job" to "outstanding". As soon as my eyes recover. Gah.

I did not even quite notice that part until after I bought it. Great work!

The Super Bang Enforcer by Jaru.
Nice. I love the shape, the only thing I'm not so keen on is the grip. I think it could really benefit from a reshape. Perhaps some wooden inserts?

Nice. I love the shape, the only thing I'm not so keen on is the grip. I think it could really benefit from a reshape. Perhaps some wooden inserts? I was considering that, but the plastic is not exactly the sort that lends itself to reshaping...it is thinner and is a lot more brittle then the Nerf Maverick. Any serious modification carries with it the huge risk of shattering. Going with the existing shapes however is a possibility as the two halves of the grip around the frame and the the pieces just forward of the trigger are removable. If I had the wood, I'd consider trying it.

My 2nd gun.. almost done.. That silver piece of metal below the trigger guard is the "trigger" ( the trigger guard is now a view port into the internal workings of the mechanism) I plan to darken the "panel" that partially obscures that.. it's just poster board.. trimmed to fit and painted.

I like the design, and the more functional layout of the gears, but I'm curious as to how the gun feels when you hold it? The position of the trigger would make me think it's a little awkwardly placed.

Colonel..
Oddly enough the trigger feels better placed there.. When it's done I'll post a pic with it in my hand.. finger on the trigger and you'll see. I started off trying to use that silver piece *inside* the trigger guard but at one point of my finagelin' it slipped thru the seam. At that point I looked at it and said.. "Hmm.. I wonder...? Yep it wrks right there.."

I got a day off, and rather than spend it watching episodes of Warehouse 13 or Doctor Who or some such thing as I normally would, I decided to finally get a project out in the real world so as to stop it rattling about my skull. SO, I give you this thing... Details I'm hoping for your opinions, thoughts and or general musings about this, my latest piece of weaponry. It should be said that it is constructed nearly entirely of metal, with the exception of the faux wood, plastic grip.

Assuming it is an old cap gun, I shall say it is the most sexy cap gun I ever laid eyes upon Thank you Sir! Yes, it's a "Big Tex" 8 shot cap gun that I've had lying about for a couple years. Even mangaged to preserve the funtionality

Hah, even better!
Really, I quite like it. I am not a fan of all too baroque and 'fancy' Steampunk; I prefer to have mine with an air of functionality.

Doktor- I look forward to seeing the picture to satisfy my own curiosity. It just seemed like a an awkward place for the trigger, but if, as you say, it it's even more comfortable, excellent! Superbill- It's a beautiful mod, simple, yet elegant, and I agree with Torvald, I like weapons that have more function incorporated into the design. As a history person, I'm all about trying to conceive projects that retain traditional designs but break into the realm of fantasy *just* enough (still trying to perfect steampunk Zeon uniforms from the original Gundam anime series, already have a few on paper). It has just the right amount of brass and wood color along with strong, traditional steel to make it look more realistic that it could survive some use in the field. By the way, is the sight piece made from an empty shell casing, or a pointer device? I'm actually inspired to try making something like this myself for my own personae, if you don't mind, and if I ever get around to it Work and the school year are a commin' after all!

Faust, thanks do much. I'm the same, I enjoy it so much more if its believable as being functional. Falchion, I'm very glad you like it! The sight is actually a 160 degree "peep hole" for a door. It's more functional as an optical sight than as a scope but it looks the part. Feel free to glean ideas if you'd like, the cap gun is readily available online usually for under $20 U.S. and it's really hefty and durable. The same company also makes some interesting cap rifles that I've been eyeing for a while.

We have been getting some of the "ring cap" revolvers at the museum that are made to look like Civil War era Remingtons. They sell for about $15 US.

Glad you like the idea. Elvisroe, if you end up being able to justify the cost, go for it. They really are pretty great guns. Good quality. D.Oakes, do you have some pictures of them? Also, what is the museum you've mentioned? I've seen you mention it a couple times before and it has me curious.

Capt Salt sir.. If the Dark Lord Sauron had a tiny Pulp sci fi ray gun.. that'd be it! OK.. here's this one.. left side is done.. and also as promised.. I shot of it in my hand to show the trigger to hand positioning.. I love those Upholstery tacks.. they make great "rivets" Der_Doktor (not Herr) PS.. incidentally.. this is what I started with:

Hmmmm...even after seeing the gun and trigger with your hand, I would still think that the trigger lies in an uncomfortable or awkward location. However, as I am not the gentleman that this firearm was intended for, the important thing is that it works for you ....and I learned something new, I had not considered using those tacks as rivets before, and I've seen them a thousand times in the local fabric store too!

I will get a pic whenever we finally get them back in stock. They sold out quite fast.
