I'm working on the bandoliers and the blaster for a jawa costume, it's for a friend's son.

the blaster is about half done and coming right along.

I was going to just use a buzz bee hunter bolt action dart gun but I spend two days hitting just about every store I could think of to find one and they were all sold out. so I figure I might as well make a more accurate one.

the bandoliers are coming together fairly easily. I simply wrapped pieces of faux leather around cigarette package sized blocks of wood to make the pouches, with an upholstery tack to mimic the snap closure. they simply slide onto a home made sling or even a large leather belt.
I will get some pictures together of the pouches next.

Sweet!  Love the old sawn-off .303.  It was actually a weapon used in the trenches in WW1 - I cant even imagine the kick.

speaking of kick...

If you were to do something with that nail gun...

I admit that Hellboy's pistol came to mind when I saw that nailgun.  However, my talents aren't anywhere close to being able to pull that off.

Need an 8' tall guillotine for Halloween?  Done that.  Need a working, five foot in diameter money wheel for a casino?  Already built and out of the house.  I can do BIG stuff.  It's the small stuff that I find difficult to make.

Many thanks to the talent and teaching going on in this thread.  I hope to absorb a portion of it and put it to use in creating accessories for next year's con.

First off, everyone has to realize, this was not my fault.
 Wink
I have No Idea how this happened, really I don’t.
A few nights ago I was kickin around Brass Goggles here on the Guns threads. Someone had posted a pic of their new modded Maverick. Someone else posted a response along the lines that” It was better than most people who just spray paint them gold or brass and call it steampunk”
Of course I had to google the subject and found all kinds of pics like this.

So it all started innoncently enough, I drew a quick rough sketch of one.

Then I’m thinking , hey I wonder if I could make one of these out of wood and stuff I have down stairs in the cellar.

According to all the specs here and on line, Average overall length is 11+  Inches. THIS S.O.B. got away from me.  It was totally accidental. First I did a drawing, I originally planned on making it 14 inches long but about 1 ½ inches narrower from top to bottom, to kind of give it that custom gunfighter rig look.

Then as I started putting things together, everything went straight down the Tubes. The ½” pine stock I thought I had was ¾”.  OK so we lengthen it a little more. The ½” copper pipe that I thought I had was 7/8” dia. So now the 2 inch Discs wouldn’t work…. You people see where this is going right?

And I end up with THIS monstrosity
Somewhere between me yelling 'it's ALIVE" and the peasants showing up with pitchforks and torches, I'd realized I may have gone too far.

This thing is 22 FRICKIN inches long and weighs more than my National Guard M-4.  I had to put the Front Grip on in order to keep it stable.

Oh well. The next project is going to be a simple, over/under  12 ga sawed off.  Wish me luck.

Sergeant!  WHAT DID YOU DO!?   Shocked

I am not sure if I want to beat you with my walking stick or invite you over for absinthe... Grin

Seriously, I am not sure what to think.  One part of my brain is going THAT IS GREAT!  The other part of my brain is going...he made a Nerf Maverick shotgun...without using a Nerf Maverick...blasphemy!

Congratulations you are one of the first people who has ever failed to produce a solid opinion from me.  I have been paid for opinions...and I don't have one for you.  I want to say original, but of course admittedly it is not, but that said, it is!...see my dilemma?  Way to go!   Grin

Thank You Mr. Oakes

You obviously understand my Dilema.

When I finished it and measured the legnth and looked at it I had two different mindsets.

One - "this looks really, really Cool!"  Cool
Two -  If there is a Steam Punk BATF  I am so going to Devils Island for a long stretch.  Shocked

Alright, after some more thought and some more absinthe I have decided this to be my best description of what I see:  It is a middle finger to everyone who moans about people using Nerf guns, that said it can be viewed by those people as a middle finger to those people who use Nerf guns.  It is a duality.  You made this thing largely from scratch and so it has the thumbs up of the "anti-Nerf crowd" but that said it is based on the Maverick so has the thumbs up of the "Nerf crowd."  Being a real gun owner, a Nerf modder, and a scratch builder...I sit on the fence.  So I guess in the end, I have to accept that I do like it.  And if I ever can get a facility to do a bit of a Steampunk show with more of the "little names."  I'd love to have that thing there.  Just because of its duality.  So you have definitely made the art history part of my brain extremely happy.   Grin

I know, but you DID it!  Innocent as it is, it has profound implications.  You replicated a Nerf gun, but added your own twist, all without actually using a Nerf gun.  That definitely has a very "interesting" factor to it.

Hmmmm,
You know what MR Oakes,
I think yo are onto something here.  I think I'm going to make a list , in Column A, of all of the Nerf Guns made, and in colum B be will be all of the Nerf guns that have been "Steamed", then in column C will be my "Attempts.

I can be "that guy", you know, the guy in the movies, the Hero or Heroes have a super Dangerous, super important/dangerous job. They go and see,"the guy", the guy takes them into the basement, garage, barn, back of the shop, where he has secreted a few million dollars worth of Highspeed, customized weaponry.

I could be..."the Guy"   Grin what is interesting is that ,y 3 oldest children, who are all about your age, are just getting into the whole steam punk thing and my 25 year old twins  started calling me "il Duce" last year.

Ok, I bet you can appreciate this.  The Galil, from Israel is a combination of an AK and an M16...great weapon, a bit heavy, and has a bottle opener....well a special forces officer pushed it further and made it EVEN MORE of a hybrid of the two.  You are that guy.  Whose name currently slips my mind, but produced something quite epic.   Grin

Take a look at the “Real Construction” nail gun when you get a chance.  (I’d post a link, but I can’t find any pictures of a decent size to show the detail.)

I stumbled across a bigger picture of the nail gun this morning.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

From the picture, it looks like it may be possible to simply remove the plunger, the plastic section below the handle and most of the section that would be placed against the 'wood' in order to create a quick 'n dirty gun.  Hastily modified image below as an example.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I hope to get my hands on one next weekend to see the internal mechanism.  The 'gun' would look better if the handle and trigger mechanism could be moved back a bit, instead of being directly below the cylinder.  I just don't know if that's possible and still be able to make the cylinder turn when the trigger is pulled.

This weekend I was wandering all of the excellent weapons and inventions on this site, and I suddenly had a powerful creative rush, and needed to really make something.
This device is the end result of all of that, sort of a combination gun and arm guard.

On my arm

back end

and the original side but without that fleshy arm in the way
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I'm afraid that although the trigger can be pulled, its an otherwise static model.  Still I'm fairly pleased with the end result, it fits comfortably and doesn't slide off when the handle is let go.  Made from schedule 40 pvc, wood, some aluminum and brass, and a generous helping of bits and bobs that have been accumulating on my work table for some time.

My apologies for the quality of the pictures, my camera is an older one.

Great job! I really like this a lot (fleshy arm and all).

It brings to mind a steampunky Iron Man suit. Maybe you could make it shoot flames. Oooo...flames...

I redid my Nerf gun.  I was not happy with the color originally and I wanted to get rid of some of the modern lines with my dremel.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Now for you Nerf haters, stay tuned for the end of October, a new toy will be arriving:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
And somewhere between now and then I shall have my made my light machine gun utilizing a hand drill.  I am going for a single barrel design based to some extent on the Agar Coffee Grinder and the best part will be that it will cycle cartridges.  It won't be able to shoot them of course, but it will still be fun.

Ah HA!  The plasma globe for the next Bevel-Transnove outing, a heavy discharge Lightning Gun, has just arrived.  Design so far has four different voltages in it, I suspect I'm going to be soldering up a storm this weekend.

Well here is my first effort from the Volcanic Experimental Arms Co. (Sturry), the Diablo mk. III

http://www.flickr.com/photos/68334262@N07/6217599056/#in/photostream

The Diablo fires a mixture of rarefied-aether and compressed sulphur out to a range of up to 80 yards, although it does have a tendency to make the user smell of rotten eggs...

UPDATE: with apologies to Bastable, who's probably sick of the sight of the damnable contraption by now!  Wink
