I can only imagine what fun you would have poking around at one of our New England open air flea markets.  The assortment of wonders and amazements is truly mind boggling. People demolish 200 year old  houses barns all the time, and the stuff they throw out  is the stuff  that maker's dreams are made of.  A friend of mine bought several "dollar boxes" which are treasure troves of bobs and bits. If I can get to New Hampshire this summer, I can see a dollar box or two in my future.  I was told that one vendor had a  large cardboard crate jam packed with antique clock parts for sale last year for $5.00.   Shocked

Yes, I despair at our lack of such markets locally.

Wow, just wow. Lovely stuff through and through here - I think I've said that previously, but it needs reiterating. You've also inspired me to try 'tomecrafting' as you have so fittingly dubbed it myself. I've already got a hollow book 'shell', just need to decorate it in a style similar to what I before me here.

Ooooooo! Icky, icky, awesome! I love it! I can see a  worn and battered lab shelf, and a decrepit wooden test tube holder with several dusty tubes containing these little guys. Marvelous!

Okay, so far I have a test tube filled with a cluster of small slimy spheres, a white worm, the small tentacled screamer above, a snippet of an ancient scroll, and tomorrow a mummified finger infected with an odd fungus. I need one more testtube horror to finish the set. Any ideas?

1) An ear with a strange tattoo and an earring still on it.
2) An eldritch symbol glowing through murky liquid.
3) An oddly knotted piece of cord hacked off and bloodstained at one end.

My suggestions/

- An Infernal Bee/Wasp/Hornet
- "Scrimshawed" horn, maybe from Shub-Niggurath's goat form?
- A piece of steel, rusted, with the Elder Sign. A failed attempt to protect oneself.

-shrunken head
-feathers and a beak
-tiny spinal column
-herbs or wood pieces
-some tritium mixed into a thick oil

And here's my latest commission piece, Dr Jeffrenson's retirement gift. Etched, lacquered wood.

w/ cover letter.

And inside, the actual specimens.

A few closeups.

More detail descriptions are available on my DeviatArt page.

It is most splendid.  Please could you post the text of the letter or at least the description of the vials as I can't read  from the photograph.

Yum. I do admire the aged look of the glass, it adds a nice touch of antiquity.
