Minecraft yes, but I figured that could be on a new topic. This one was solely for the Unofficial Server... it seems strange to carry this through for general talk, when you could start a new topic just called "Steampunks and Minecraft" and stick it in A/O.

This genuinely saddens me......I think that if the server goes that will be it for me and minecraft. To be fair it was over for me months ago, I was just in it for the community we had going.

Jesus its like firefly all over again!

I'm sorry to hear that Manix... We did have a pretty great community here, and I really do hope that those of us who keep in touch will continue to do so out of Minecraft....

It is fairly Firefly-ian, unfortunately, and just like Firefly there's not much that can be done... All there is left is to fade out with some melancholy music Sad

So does this mean we're going to end up booting up a server as a one-time thing where we all come on and do an all nighter?

WHAT THE FXCK HAVE I BEEN DOING THIS WHOLE TIME! I HAVE A SPARE MACHINE!
I'm going to track it down and try get a server running off it this afternoon. It'll have to be done through Hamachi though (unless I find a way to not have to have it through hamachi...)

Easy way to not do it through Hamachi is to forward the relevant ports... there are HUNDREDS of YouTube guides of how to do that.

Status update:
It didn't go well. I can't find the machine and all the necessary bits...
I'll still try and find it eventually and get a server running, but it won't be an immediate thing...

I have a spare machine, but have had no luck with port forwarding in the past, my internet connection would be the bottle neck though, I barely manage client side most of the time :/

See my connection would also be the bottleneck but I think that for the meantime it's better than nothing and there's also a second cable being laid from here to Australia which means there'll finally be some damn competition in the data market and we won't see such insane data costs. It'll also mean the telecommunications companies will have more reason to get on with this fibre optic thing. I believe they are technically trying to go 'fibre to the node' at present but I don't know if we've been upgraded and I don't think they're still actively doing it.

I have exams between now and Saturday so I'll probably not be doing anything in terms of setting up the server until Staurday at the earliest, but most likely Monday.

I've recently been reduced to a 4 day week which means I would have some extra spare time to help out, however, because I've recently been reduced to a 4 day week I don't have a lot of spare cash and as far as hardware goes I can only offer a beat up, long-past-it's-best laptop which would require a bit of tuning to get it even half decent. Sad Basically what I'm saying is I'd like to help out but I'm not sure how.

Right folks, I'll lock this one now as it's all been shut down. Feel free to contact me via PM for more information, if you want it, or to discuss anything else uBG-server based. If anyone wants to start a "brass goggles minecraft" topic over in A/O you're welcome to.
Thanks!

Right, I have a plan. I'm going to unlock this topic and move it back. I'm getting about 70 NZD a week now and have a good $600 lying around in case shifts become scarce. As far as running a server out of my house went I couldn't get it running fast enough for anything close to a reasonable cost and we're wanting to use the machine for other stuff now.

I can't pay for the server myself though. Not because I can't afford it but because I'm not 18 and can't have a paypal account. What I can do is have a monthly deposit that I can shuffle off to Longeye to help pay (I'm not quite prepared to cover all the costs myself sorry).

Longeye, if you're ok with sharing the cost between us (we can work out exact amounts between us) then would you be happy re-opening this server?

I'm afraid that only part of the trouble with me running it is the funds necessary to do so, at this point I don't have the time nor the willpower to run the server on top of everything else.... Whilst I'm happy to show someone else how to do it, and provide tips and advice as needed I cannot be the one to actually run it, or act as the "go between" for funds/host I'm afraid Sad

Reckon Manix might be able to do the bulk of the 'running' part?

Corsair; you set it up you ARE using that! Wink
As for Manix; you'll have to ask him. If you don't have him of facebook I can give him a nudge for you....

Nudge Manix then.

Proposal: Tekkit, survival mode, with some bukkit based trading stuff. We can build a truly epic city, even without creative mode and worldedit.
