On Saturday, April 9, I will be hosting a steampunk group shoot at Grimmelore Manor (built c. 1901), home of Brute Force Studios

We have multiple rooms available for shooting, including a mad scientist medical lab, steampunk sitting room, medieval Gothic hall, 1920's era bathroom/wet room, and glamorous boudoir.  The Manor is also available to rent for future shoots Smiley

Featured wardrobe designers include Brute Force Studios, Wolfhome Adventuring Outfitters, and more!

Anyone who wants to take pictures, have their picture taken, or just eat pizza and ogle heavy machinery is welcome to attend Smiley

WARNING: We have cats!  If you would like to come but are allergic to cats, we will try to keep them away from you but be warned, they will try to love you to death.

That looks like a wonderful setting for a photo shoot. I hope you post some of the results.

"Nor running a chance of arrest?"

"Oh, the cause is excellent!"

Over the weekend I took Lady Clankington on her kind offer for any BGers in the area to stop in at Grimmelore Manor, a large 1901 house in Harrisburg PA and home base for Brute Force Studios, to attend their steampunk photo shoot. BFS does some mighty fine steampunk props and clothing, as in the near iconic photo at the link below of Mr Fillion's 'Castle' epi last season where they provided the mechanical arm, goggles, and even the pith helmet among other items.  http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w56/EmmiKristiina/castle-steam9-thumb-572xauto-240441.jpg

The place is ideal for steampunk indoor and outside background photography, with Victorian bric-a-brac and BFS-built items around every corner. Where else can one find an entire room seemingly devoted to all types of corsets, or another filled with actual medical quackery paraphernalia used by the unsuspecting general public over the last century and a half.  But don't get too comfortable in that room unless you are properly dressed - the primary place to sit down is an old physician's OB/GYN table, complete with raised stirrups. Pix of various rooms can be found at BFS’ website: http://www.drsteampunk.com/?p=182[/url]

As a builder I liked the various contraptions they placed strategically around the house, such as a multi-horn old console radio or functional leather-covered wings with a complete airframe-like substructure built from a laser cutter.  Here’s a montage of pix I took as well as one taken of me in my natural state (black & white).
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The shindig was very cool, with good food and interesting people.  The only unfortunate bit was my poor timing, as I had to leave after a couple of hours and the models were just about getting their makeup and outfits done at that point to mingle with the guests and photographers while attempting not to bump into the sea of lighting equipment and tripods.  Bottom line – highly recommended for all.  markf
