See, comments like that just make me sad that I can't get to the US more. The amount of random craftable materials that are just hanging around in sheds and garage sales is incredable

Take me, for instance.  I live quite literally 5 miles away from an abandond Crane Graveyard (LOTS of diesel cranes from the 50s, just ROTTING there...).  I've found good lengths of chain, gauges, and bits of metal there.  I MAY go and try and cut the muffler off the truck, just to get something for a decent base for a rocket (still looking for Ski Boots in my size-the rocket boots WILL HAPPEN!) of some kind.  I'm TRYING to think of a way to incorperate my liquor bottles...

As it stands, IF I can get my paints today (doubtful, but hopeful none the less), I may be able to throw together my "Jump Pack" idea.  Maybe.

if it helps cheer you up a bit - you guys over there in the u.k. still seem to have more than we do here in the Netherlands.

Oh the day I move out of this country (hopefully within a year)... Let the planning for my own rocket pack begin!

Giving you just a peek..............

I drew up a concept drawing of what it should look like when complete,
Sorry for the crude drawing I don't have a cad program so I drew it up using microsoft word....

I am gathering the essential bits and pieces during the week and will start photos after
I have enough stuff to start....

I'm suprised how light mine is turning out so far. Although the majority of it is plastic so I shouldn't be. I'm just plotting out where the bolts will have to go to hold it all together and fix the wings in the correct position (they won't be moving, which is a shame). I need to sort out the Boosters next (Note to self: Finish off that lemonade so I can use the bottle). Once I have those figures I'll stick up another set of 'Work in Progress'  pics.

While starting the annual clean up of the millions of leafs that fall around my place, I realized that the straps on my backpack leaf blower are the PERFECT straps for a rocket pack.  A quick check found the ones on my unit go for $15 a piece on line.  Should be able to find used ones around for just about nothing.  Worth checking out if you are in the need for a harness.

Were you using your hoverboard to get around whilst leaf blowing?

You could almost propell yourself along with the leaf blower pointing behind you.

Who needs a leaf blower.... when you have beans and beer?

A couple of days ago I got an email inviting me to exhibit my Steam Rocket Packs at a technology fair in India. I emailed back wondering if they realized that my Packs were much more art than technology.

Got the response back this morning:
"You are right. I did think it was possible to fly using one of your
steam packs. They are really beautiful but I guess displaying them in
a technology festival won't make much sense now"

Oh well, maybe next time.

(evil grin while twirling mustache )

You could have gotten a free trip to India from that message.

Take them up on the offer, have them pay for the passage there and back, then exclaim upon arrival, "What!  I thought this was a FANTASY technology fair!  My rocket pack doesn't actually work!"

It would a be a brief visit to India, but a visit nonetheless.

I'm sure someone with a spare couple of grand could get one of those compressed air jet packs that do display flights at baseball games and steam it up. Grin

CBS Sunday Morning just aired their segment on Steampunk.  I am proud to say they included several of my rocket packs as part of the well done show.

Good write up, it's nice when there is recognition.

I am still gathering bits and peices I think I figured out where the one WWI bomb casing is since it is not in the shed or the garage it must be in the storgage unit so I need a little time to get into that....

Years ago My wife & I collect 6th scale action figures one of the forums I was on decided to have a contest of sorts for an alternate time line a what if WWII had continued into the 1960's and that is how my first rocket/jet pack became to be.

I found some photo's of a rocket/jet pack I built back in 2001/02 this is not exactly steampunk but I thought you might like to see it, who knows it might inspire something else the main tun the engine sits in was scratch built, the wings are from a 1:24 scale Me109 the engine is actually parts of a turboprop enging kit, the control arms are from an imperial walker, the black molded pack frame assy is from a 1960's james bond rocket pack... (all I had left of it from when I was a kid)  So that's pretty much what went into it .... enjoy.

Thank you, coming from you sir I appreciate the compliment.

there was an outfit that called 21st Century toys that made the miniguns.....
I did some mods to it and in the story line the plans for a German WWI version were re-discovered and improved upon, according to the book "German Machine guns" the original has been lost or destroyed.... it actually still exists in a museum here in the U.S.....

On Saturday a bunch of us went in costume to the MCM Expo, and I got my first shots of the pack with its new number (some months after receiving it from Maduncle, sorry about that).

As you can see I've also added a small set of wings. They're canvas with wire ribs, held on by leather straps that go around the side-mounted test tubes. Unfortunately they spent most of the day folded inwards like broken bats wings due to the number of people we had to wade through.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Incidentally, this shot (in the link below, can't seem to embed it) was taken by a random passerby and is one of the better ones of me from that day (you can see the leather straps looping around the tubes). If anyone else got any, please send them my way!

I can't believe I haven't commented on anything on this topic yet! Great work everybody! I'm hoping to make myself a rocket pack one of these days (maybe someday I'll have the time and money...and welding skills). I'm inspired by all of your guys' creativity and skill.
