The Aetheric Message Machine Company will have a functioning Telegraph Office at the Wild Wild East Steampunk Exhibition, March 25-27, 2011, in Santa Clara, CA.

We're looking for two or three reliable people to work in the Telegraph Office at the event. Here's the job:

Operator:  Works in the Telegraph Office and handles incoming messages from our brass and glass Aetheric Message Machine. Cuts messages off the paper roll as they're printed, stamps them with rubber stamps, puts them in envelopes, and sorts them into baskets for the messengers.  Posts news bulletins on bulletin board.   Also types outgoing messages on the Aetheric Message Machine occasionally, which requires good typing skills because you can't backspace and erase with this antique technology.  Explains the Office to visitors.  Will probably be photographed a lot. Requires basic receptionist/office skills and about a half hour of training.  You'll be busy.

This is fun in costume, because it's in period and real. You're really working in a steampunk telegraph office.  The antique machines with hundreds of visible moving parts automatically receive messages sent from cell phones, and the messages are printed on paper rolls. They have to be cut apart, sorted, stamped, put in envelopes, and delivered around the convention by messengers. It's a useful service, and people use it. We handled 260 messages at Nova Albion. It got frantic at times. So we're staffing up.

Accepted volunteers get a convention pass at our expense.

Oh, and there's a hat which goes with the job.  Green eyeshade or messenger cap with badge, your choice.

Apply to "info@aetherltd.com".

(Oops. This is for 2011, not 2010. Yes, we need people this year.)
