"we can use that to make tools, and whatever we need" Said alex, taking a seat. "All we need is a way to get food, and we'll be set down here for a while."

"Hmm yeah..." he agreed half-heartedly. His mind was occupied by the news he had to deliver and the task that had been thrust upon them.

He decided to speak even though he didn't have the full attention of the group. He'd have it soon enough.
"When I collapsed I witnessed something I can only describe as extraordinary. Everything was made of something different, some otherworldly substance. I was told by some entity in this lighted mass that it was the aether and it was something of a mirror of our world that is home to beings of a different format of life entirely. "This being told me something that refuses us a standard settlement of this land, newfound abilities aside of course. Some one, or perhaps a group of someones, have planned to take this land for themselves. I do not know who they are or how they intend on doing this. I don't even know why. If they succeed, it is clear to me that humans will be less than welcome in this place. It is crucial that we stop this takeover, no matter what form it takes."
A silence hung...

Alex looked at everyone, judging their reactions from their expressions, and their auras. "Well..." He said "I'm for stopping these people, if only to bring them to justice for the ship sinking, and probably other incidents that were written off as "accidents", so you have my support."

Cenek idly held a metal cylinder he had been forming. He looked ahead with cold eyes, the end of the rod forming into a point.
"Yes. The murders they have committed cannot be allowed to continue - or be allowed to go unavenged."
He then laughed, returning to his cheerful half.
"As well - now we have something to do in this New World, no? My concerns about work seem rather petty all of a sudden."

"I have no idea when this... invasion," he could find no better word really, "is going to begin. We may not have much time to prepare, we may have plenty. When the sun is up we will need to get some basic living supplies for down here if this is going to act as a base of operations."

Cenek nodded
"And some decorations." he laughed. "The stone walls gives this all a very grim start. I'm sure that our earth-working friend can design separate rooms that we can then shore up. I myself will work on maybe getting a boiler set up for the heat and maybe some basic appliances."

I'll 'elp with th' boilers and other smithin' work," Fergus intoned. "bendin' and all's fine, but there be nae substitute fer 'eatwork and temperin'. An' I might not even need a forge fire, 'til we get to the big projects, anyway!"

"I'll get to work clearing out some rooms for everyone... also I think I need some ventilation shafts here and there..." Julius pondered to himself, and set to work pushing out rooms, passageways and even building ladders our of the wall (pushing parts in makes a ladder). It didn't take long before there was a quite sizeable warren of rooms, each with their own purpose but not well furnished. He'd tried to make some rooms more appealing by adding swirls of rock, interesting things hanging from the ceiling and such, but the fact of the matter was that there was only so much one could do with stone.

Fergus chose a room with a raised stone slab off in the corner, with a depression that looked as if it might have been intended as a basin, and piled in the depression several of teh various bits of Iron that had melted out of the heating slab that Julius had initially raised from teh floor of teh tunnel. for their first meeting. He heated them up, and noticed for the first time that when he thought about the fire a certain way, some of it would actually project from his fingers.
He also noted that these emissions tended to be much hotter than what he could summon just through his palms. On a whim, he took off his boots, and pressed his feet to the floor, concentrating on projecting fire through their soles. The result surprised him; he was standing the first time he tried it, and the resulting impact of the fire from his feet to the floor actually lifted him from the floor and tossed him in a heap against the opposite wall! When he had sorted out which limbs went where and stood up again, he laughed at the ridiculous picture he must have made, upside down in the corner with a surprised look on his face. "Walk before ye run, Fergus, ye great fool," he muttered to himself."
On another whim, working from the discovery of how the fire shot from his fingertips, Fergus experimented with various ways of spraying fire from his fingers, like a multiple-nozzle singeing torch. he managed to get up to a superhot, bluish cutting flame that cut right through most of teh sheet-like iron pieces in the basin, abd which he used after a bit of experimentation to carve furthe rthe whorls and othe rdecorative features that Julius had made in teh room.
Well, enough playin' about," Fergus muttered. "Best to set about makin' an anvil o' some kind." He used the blowtorch technique to deepen the depression in the rock, and then heated the metal to a near-boiling, molten state. He then kicked into the floor (the sound of his stomping and the stone heating, cracking, breaking loose, and flying around the room was deafening; he figured it must sound like elephants were dancing in the Lair, and he hurried to finish before anyone could come dashing in and make him stop) A rough outine of an anvil; base, block, horn and all, and then cut a channel in the basin and let the molten iron run out and into the crude mold. He spent the next couple of hours shaping the crudely-shaped block into the shape of the finest and biggest anvil he'd yet seen, even if he did say so himself. He finally went and found Julius and Falko, and asked the fellows if they could help spread the word to saty away from the room that Fergus had chosen as his forge and apartment, at least for a while. "I'm goin' tae be temperin' me anvil, an' that requires heat that most would find unbearable, so it'd be best if veryone stayed away from me room for, oh, a couple hours at least."

Julius thought for a moment, before coming to a realisation. "You want people kept out? I can do one better and help keep heat in. I'll make a door out of rock and hang it on a pin hinge... You'll be able to open a close it with a bit of work..."

Rosie looked up, "I don't know, I'm hearing voices and buzzing and everytime I get emotional something breaks. I'm sorry, I don't mean to get emotional or snap at people."

"I think that's like what I have" Said Alex, walking over to join the conversation. "I can see everyones auras, like an outline around them, they show the person's emotions, and how much everyoen was touched by the aether...I think. All I know is that everyone in this chamber is practically glowing, and so far it won't go away...I think we are going to have to practice with these for a while before we become good with them."

That upset her. Tears began welling up in her eyes. "Can you control being cold? No! Half the time I can't hear what you all are thinking because it all happens at once. It's hard not for me to be emotional right now."
She turned away from him and tears fell down her cheeks.

He felt bad. He had been quite pushy. He held her from behind, resting his chin on her shoulder. A thin mist settled around them. It was involuntary and prevented Alex from being able to see the two of them. "I'm not going to say things will be ok because I just can't know. I think you should lie down and try to sleep." he gave her a kiss on the cheek.

Alex wanted to help, but the curtain of mist that appeared was as good a sign as any, so began to walk away. "if you need me, I'll be looking around" He said back to them, though he guessed they weren't listening.

Rosie turned around and laid her head on his shoulder and cried. After a while she stopped and looked up at him. "Everything's just been a little crazy lately." she said with a smile.

Meanwhile, Fergus struggled with his anvil; it was not the largest anvil he had seen, but it came close. Unfortunately, once he got trough polishing it and shaping it on teh floor, it proved to be the heaviest anvil he had ever tried to lift.
"Weeell, ain't this embarrassin'!" he said, as he looked at the beautifully-made basic blacksmith's implement, which had so far defied his every attempt to lift it to the basin pedestal, which he had filled with yet more molten iron and allowed that to cool and make a nice, flat surface. "I could lift 'er with a chain 'oist -- but we ain't got a chain 'oist!" he fumed (literally, as it turned out. It seemed the angrier he became, the more he smoked from his mouth and ears). "Well, there be nothin' for it, I'll have ter temper it on th' floor, an' make the chain 'oist parts and th' frame ter 'ang it on, down on th' floor, then lift it wit der 'oist. Plannin', Fergus, ye great looby, Plannin!" And thus, he set to work on the next implement project.
It was more than three hours after he had promised to be finished with the anvil-tempering before he was ready to lift the anvil onto the pedestal. "A' this rate, I could be makin 'inges an' tunnel supparts by Yuletide next year!" He said, derisively.
